An article in this mornings LA Times reports that the second surge of Covid-19 infections "appears to be abating". That begs the question, now what?
Have we learned enough from the first time the rules were relaxed to do a better job of relaxing them this time, or should we stay the current course until a vaccine becomes widely available?
It didn't have to be this way, but due to a lack of leadership at the top resulting in mixed messages, more Americans have died and will die than if we'd gotten on top of the pandemic rather than being crushed under the weight of it. Some of this is on us, but most of it is on our leader, the Great Grifter.
Our country came together and won WWII at a great cost. We can't seem to come together and have been losing this war to another deadly enemy.

Abating? The new normal seems to be 50,000 cases and 1,000 deaths a day. I don't see that abating.
Also, we are an a yoyo. Things improve a little, so we relax restrictions. Then things get worse again.

If we can't recognize we've learned hard lessons, this will never end.
