There is an adventure race show starting Friday on Amazon that might be worth checking out. It's like, a hard core, real race (but with the teams chosen for their story line, more than their competitiveness). As the article notes, there was a run of these in the late 90's - early 00's. Wife and I were fans. They were interesting. The worst part of them was watching the people being sleep deprived. Imo, they should have mandatory rest periods in the race. Watching delirious people (when that happened) wasn't fun. But, by and large the show was good entertainment. In those days, I wasn't aware that teams were chosen for story-line. It seemed like a legitimate racing series that they made a show out of. Maybe they did pick teams to tug on your heartstrings, but it wasn't obvious. We were pretty stoked one day, when, at the bar at June Mountain, we met a woman who had been in one of the races - and had just "set the record for snow-shoeing up the face of June Mountain." To this day, I find it weird that they keep a record of that. But, the June Mt employees seemed impressed. She took a shine to us and we had a nice chat for a while at the bar. 3rd biggest celebrity I've ever had a chat with! When The Amazing Race came out, wife and I were excited. We thought they were taking that extreme race format and putting it on a network. Wrong. Anyway, we will give this show a try, if only because of our nostalgia for the original run of shows. www.sacbee.com/entertainment/article244962005.html
