Trump has ordered billions taken from the FEMA budget to pay for extended unemployment benefits. Of course, this may be illegal.
But there is another problem. This is supposed to be the worst Atlantic hurricane season ever. There is a serious chance FEMA will be badly needed in the coming months.
Under-funding our primary disaster relief agency seems to be a bad idea.
Is Trump intentionally trying to lose Florida? First he screws up a pandemic that is most deadly for seniors. Then he talks about cutting funding for Social Security and Medicare. Finally, he cuts funding for hurricane relief.
What else can he screw up?

I'm sure he's thinking he can shift the money now and, when disaster comes, Congress will be forced to appropriate new disaster money.
Which is why what he is doing is so constitutionally appalling.

Two comments: 1) I think you give him too much credit for thinking ahead. 2) Money appropriated after the disaster is less effective than money used to prepare for coming disasters. Of course, I agree it is appalling.
