It's Grace Community Church in Sun Valley (that's San Fernando Valley). It was a very popular church among conservative Christians at UCLA. A lot of my friends carpooled there. I myself attended for 3-4 years after graduation. The church is now meeting in person inside the auditorium with no face masks and no social distancing. Below is a photo from last Sunday. The senior pastor of the church appeared on the Tucker show yesterday to defend his decision. This is worrisome because of the prominence of the church. The church runs its own college and seminary, and thousands of churches are run by the school's graduates. Even though it isn't a denominational church, the pastor's prominence could embolden many churches to follow suit and defy the government orders and reopen. In fact, the church is exhorting other churches across the country to do exactly that. The statement on the website has declared that " Compliance would be disobedience to our Lord’s clear commands." In other words, if you comply, you are going against God. Meanwhile, my church had a meeting about reopening. The congregation voted unanimously against meeting in-person, and we spent most of the meeting talking about how we can go above and beyond the state guidelines to show the love of Christ to our neighbors.

Wile I had a thought that these people are creating their own fate, mostly it makes me sad. There will be children losing their parent needlessly.
A pastor should protect those who put their trust in him.

People like that pastor will make sure CA stays number one in covid cases and deaths. Too bad all of those attendees can't be identified and forcibly quarantined for two weeks. If they are too ignorant to protect themselves fine but spreading it in the community is totally irresponsible if not manslaughter. In the least the pastor should be arrested. It would be good for the community if he follows in Herman's footsteps and alleviates the problem.

Nothing that these people do shocks me. I used to go to church with them.
I am more interested in how the authorities will respond. The County just shut down their coffee shop. I sure hope they respond with the full force of the law.

And I thought there were scriptures to the effect that a congregation did not have to be indoors and did not have to have hundreds of people. Therefore the idea that it is against God to wear masks or social distance, are [fill in your own adjective]. I remember this church from before this long but temporary sojourn in Michigan. You didn't want to be on that thoroughfare before or after a sanctuary service. They and their cars were reminiscent of locusts.

A couple of weeks ago our pastor preached a sermon where he said Jesus didn't preach "freedom", he preached servanthood to our fellow man.
His point: Wear the damn mask (although he didn't exactly say it that way).
