He claimed that he was asking a question about injecting bleach to the “fake news media” sarcastically.
Trump: “I was looking at you yesterday when I was being sarcastic about disinfectants.”
Reporter: “I wasn’t there yesterday”
Another reporter: “you were looking at Dr. Birx” (which he was)
Trump: “I was looking at Bill, the doctor, I was looking at some of the reporters”
***CHANGES SUBJECT***
He turned sideways looking towards Dr. Bill and Dr. Birx and he directed the question at them, in reference to Bill’s comments about the virus reacting to disinfectants and direct sunlight.
This is both crazy and embarrassing

That was answer 1a during the primary campaign, "He was obviously joking," followed by 1b, "No reasonable person would take what he said seriously."
Deflect, deny, and lie, Lie, LIE!

Bullshit. His reaction when it was questioned about it made it clear he was being completely serious.
His supporters cannot possibly be that stupid...right?

It's not stupidity - I don't think. It's some kind of deranged loyalty. I posted my "Trump is bringing back the Tide pod challenge" post on my FB page. An acquaintance of mine from H.S. responded "Sarcasm." She's a smart person - she knows it wasn't sarcasm. She just feels some obligation to defend Trump, no matter how dishonest, or how stupid, his statement. I don't get it.
She's a pretty cool person, btw. She's a drummer. She hung out w/ all the guitar class guys at our H.S. (guitar was huge at our H.S., maybe it is everywhere. There were at least 30 guys that hung out at lunch at one end of the quad, with their guitars, every day at lunch, showing each other what they'd learned, and helping each other. She hung out with them, and still plays in a bar band).
But, apparently, she feels compelled to defend the T bag, No Matter What. I don't get it.

If he had not said "sarcasm", she would not have said it,and would have claimed that it was a completely reasonable question, just like "how come antibiotics don't work on Covid 19?" or "who coulda known that this was coming?" (a favorite of that side of the fence, previously used in the 2008 crash and the Iraq War justifications).

But, what identity is she signaling? Trump supporter? And, why so loyal to any President? "who coulda known that this was coming?" Condoleeza Rice:"I don't think anybody could have predicted that these people would take an airplane and slam it into the World Trade Center, take another one and slam it into the Pentagon; that they would try to use an airplane as a missile, a hijacked airplane as a missile." On September 10, 2001, there was a fire drill at the Pentagon, practicing for a scenario in which an airliner was intentionally flown into the Pentagon.

This morning it was “his remark was taken out of context” as if there was a context in which suggesting that injecting disinfectants into people’s lungs might cure them would not be completely insane.
Then Trump decided to go with “sarcasm” - leaving his defenders in mid lie. Now they are running with that. We’ve always been at war with Eastasia....

Like I said on the other board, those are the two stages of Trump making demonstrably false of majestically idiotic statements:
- step 1: Have people run to your side and start defending what you just said and basically sacrifice their dignity in the process, which shows Trump who's loyal and trapped himself on his side of the fence, and who is not.
- step 2: because they humiliated themselves in the process, who how much you disdain them and dominate them, back out of what you just said and leave them out there in the cold. That's their punishment for losing their dignity. The reward is, they now have Trump's trust.
It is as sick as it gets.
