Actually she'll be an important and influential Senator for years to come. Much more important than VP (except this particular November, for obvious reasons).

I don't think she was told no. I think she knew she wasn't leading the pack of contenders and didn't want her name brandished around for months as a possible only to be disappointed. She probably also believes that Harris would be better for Biden in the election.

My feeling is she’d still be in the running if not for events in Minneapolis. Yes like the coaching search.

Either that, or she just a) saw the writing on the wall and, b) figured there was no need to continue to get pummeled over the terminated prosecution that she had nothing to do with.
In other words, if remaining an option did not involve getting trashed, maybe she stays an option.
