The good cops back up the bad cops allowing them to commit more crimes.
The Senate Republicans back Trump and allow him to get away with his corruption and incompetence.
When someone enables evil, they become tainted with the evil, even as they allow it to continue. Without the enablers, the evil dies.

This is kind of the flip side of Fred Roger's "Look for the helpers."

They are certainly responsible, but it is different. Most Republican Senators know what Trump is, but out of greed or fear, they go along. That isn't the same as an out-of-work autoworker taking a chance on voting for Trump.

Has anyone done a careful study on the concept of "snitches"? There seems to be a widespread belief across many groups that snitches are the lowest of the low. Perhaps it's a natural belief given that humans are a "herd" animal? Heck, those that use snitches for info for utilitarian reasons often disrespect snitches.
Cops are certainly not immune and have a very strong code of silence.

OK, we all know there is a large number of folks in the electorate who are dim bulbs or who are very misinformed. Trump has been Trump forever but some paid no attention and didn't research anything. So give joe autoworker who doesn't read or research anything one pass on his first trump vote. But one thing for sure everyone who votes for him this time is 100% an enabler for all of the damage he does.
And voters are the enablers who put those spineless corrupt senators who support him in office.

Ben,
I don't tend to believe all Trump supporters are alike. There are racists. There are evangelicals. There are people who hate government. There are people who think he is good for the economy. There are all kinds of mixes of these. Some just hate liberals. As a liberal, I don't love everything I see and hear on the left.
Some Trumpers are woefully ignorant. Some consume hours of "news" every day and think they are well informed.
I don;t have a problem with calling them "enablers". I am just not sure how many of them know they are supporting evil.

And I wouldn't and didn't use the word evil in reference to them or anyone. trump certainly doesn't see himself as evil. And of course none of his supporters see him or themselves as evil or see themselves as supporting evil. Rather than evil I would use a slew of adjectives to describe trump including incompetent, grossly ignorant, corrupt, dangerous, narcissistic, unstable, pathological liar...We could all come up with a long list of the damage we think he's done. I do think the buck has to stop with the voters who support him so call them enablers. If they vote for him again they as a group are enabling and responsible for the havoc he causes regardless of their self-perceived motivations. He didn't put himself in office or take over the country with a coup. That's the only point I was trying to make.

I just think the Senators who accurately described Trump in the primaries, and now suck up to him, know they are supporting something vile

True, yet "Whistle-blower" = "snitch" more or less. Quite less hated, except by perps?

I just think the Senators who accurately described Trump in the primaries, and now suck up to him, know they are supporting something vile I'm with you on that, too. Those senators are lower than pond scum with no ethics at all. I'm sure some of his voters, just like those senators, also realize the damage he's doing and how deranged he is but don't care because he promotes a few of their special interests--scotus, pro-life, guns...whatever.
