A loan. Why Must I Be Alone?
A Republican lawmaker complained about student loan forgiveness, only to have the White House remind him about his own forgiven debts.
Oklahoma Rep. Kevin Hern (R) took to social media on Friday to complain about President Joe Biden's latest initiative. Specifically, Biden is reported to have cancelled about $7.4 billion more in student loan debt for 277,000 borrowers.
"Biden's debt transfer scheme puts the burden on taxpayers, forcing the 87% without loans to foot the bill for the 13% who do," Hern said on social media. "Saddling the hardworking taxpayers of America with such a debt transfer will only make life more unaffordable."
Hern added, "He’s buying votes during an election year."
But the Biden White House didn't take that lying down. Instead, it reposted Hern's message with a simple caption:
"Congressman Kevin Hern had $1,082,302 in PPP loans forgiven," the account wrote. Paycheck Protection Program loans were created to help businesses continue to operate during the pandemic.

Somebody Remind Me. Why Are We Supporting Israel?
Israel’s army said Saturday the body of a missing Israeli teen was found in the West Bank after he was killed in a “terrorist attack,” as violence escalated across the Israeli-occupied territory where tensions have simmered for months.
The disappearance of 14-year-old Binyamin Achimair sparked attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinian villages on Friday and Saturday. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in a statement on social media urged people not to take the law into their own hands.
On Friday, Palestinian Jehad Abu Alia was killed and 25 others were wounded in the attack on al-Mughayyir village, Palestinian health officials said. On Saturday, Israeli troops delayed for several hours the ambulance carrying the 26-year-old man’s body for burial, witnesses said.
Dozens of Israeli settlers returned to the village’s outskirts on Saturday, burning 12 homes and several cars. The Palestinian Health Ministry said three people from the village were injured, one critically. Border police fired tear gas toward villagers who gathered, trying to disperse them.
In the nearby village of Douma, Israeli settlers set fire to around 15 homes and 10 farms, the head of the local village council, Slieman Dawabsheh, told The Associated Press, saying he had been there. “The army came but unfortunately, the army were protecting the settlers,” he said, asserting that it fired tear gas and rubber bullets at Palestinians trying to confront and expel them.

Iran is Escalating
Iran has been accused of seizing a commercial ship with links to Israel early on Saturday morning as it passed through the Strait of Hormuz.
The MSC Aries was boarded by Iranian special forces about 50 miles (80km) off the coast of the United Arab Emirates, a statement from MSC said.
Footage obtained by Reuters news agency appeared to show troops rappelling onto the vessel from a helicopter.
The Portuguese-flagged ship is linked to Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer.
The incident comes amid heightened expectation of an Iranian attack on Israel after an airstrike destroyed Iran's consulate in Damascus at the start of April. Israel said on Saturday Iran would bear the consequences for choosing to escalate the situation any further.

Many of these People Have a Disability. They Are Liars.
Disney is revamping its policy for park visitors with disabilities, limiting how many people are eligible for the program that helps guests avoid lines because too many people are exploiting it.
Disney’s Disability Access Service program, or DAS, was launched in 2013, according to a Disney spokesperson.
The free program is intended for guests with a “developmental disability such as autism or similar” and who are unable to wait in line for an extended period of time, according to the policy posted on the company's DAS websites.
The free program allows guests to obtain a return time for attractions at its Florida and California parks rather than wait in line.
Disney on Tuesday announced that starting May 20 at Disney World, and June 18 at Disneyland, the parks will limit the number of family members eligible to four. It had previously been six. The change will also address how often eligible guests can enroll in the program: It will now be every 120 days instead of 60, Disney said.
A Disney spokesperson on Friday said DAS is the most popular service requested at Disney World and Disneyland. Use of the program has tripled during the past five years, including for guests who try to use the service that is not intended for them, the spokesperson said.
That has meant longer waits for the guests who need the service, which is why Disney is taking steps to preserve the program, the spokesperson said.
Disney does not require proof of disabilities from guests and won’t do so, the spokesperson said.
On the DAS websites, Disney says guests can be banned from the parks if they lie about having a disability.

Note to Cancun Cruz: If People From Both Parties Hate You, That Doesn't Make You Bipartisan
Heading into the heat of his reelection race against Dallas Congressman Colin Allred, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz is testing the waters with a rebrand.
Cruz, who has made a name for himself as an uncompromising conservative stalwart, is casting himself as a bipartisan lawmaker with a penchant for reaching across the aisle.

Has Cannon Fired a Warning Shot?
Judge Cannon Signals a New Plan
Understanding her sudden swerve in the context of everything that came before in the the classified documents case against Trump.
IF CANNON IS DETERMINED to acquit Trump, the smart move would be for her to keep deciding every pre-trial motion in favor of Smith, not Trump, thus ensuring that she stays on the case, just where she needs to be to issue an order of acquittal at the close of Smith’s case.
The only way Smith can prevent that is to go to the Eleventh Circuit now. It comes down to a matter of assessing patterns and weighing risks. There is no way to know for certain that Cannon is executing a new plan to acquit Trump, and there is a risk that if Smith goes to the court of appeals too soon, it will deny his request to remove Cannon from the case.
But the risk of being rebuffed by the Eleventh Circuit is outweighed by the risk of allowing Cannon to engage in judicial rope-a-dope that would exhaust Smith’s case for Cannon’s removal until it is too late.
Smith may not be able to know exactly what Cannon will do. But he does know what she can do. And based on what she has done, that should be enough for him to act now.

They Are So Good At Being Bad
Republicans remain terrible at picking Senate candidates
Tim Sheehy and Kari Lake are the new Blake Masters and Herschel Walker.
Republican Montana Senate candidate Tim Sheehy spent last week confirming that he’s a liar, which is not exactly how you want to spend your week as a Senate candidate.
Sheehy also demonstrated, for anyone who doubted it, that the GOP continues to have serious problems recruiting decent candidates for high office. Recruitment problems are why they don’t control the Senate right now. And it’s why, despite every advantage and a map that couldn’t be better for them, they still, with a good bit of luck, may be able to pull defeat from the jaws of victory this November.

Unfair and Unbalanced
A group of media organizations and far-right podcasters were hit with a libel lawsuit last month after sharing an image of a man they wrongly identified as a neo-Nazi mass shooter.
Texas man Mauricio Garcia, 36, alleges several media organizations, including Fox News and Newsmax, used an image of him in their coverage of a mass shooting last year that falsely linked him to the real shooter.
The real gunman — a 33-year-old white supremacist who killed eight people and wounded seven others at an outlet mall in Allen, Texas before he was fatally shot by police — shares the same name as the plaintiff.
“In their haste to cash in on the eagerness of viewers and readers to learn the identity of the May 6, 2023 mass shooter at the outlet mall in Allen, Texas, several media organizations recklessly disregarded basic journalistic safeguards and published the photo of an innocent man, branding him as a neo-Nazi murderer to his local community and the nation at large,” the lawsuit, filed March 26 and obtained by HuffPost, alleges.
Among the defendants accused of sharing the innocent man’s photo are far-right podcasters Tim Pool and Steven Crowder, along with Infowars host Owen Shroyer. Other media organizations named as defendants include the conservative cable channels Fox News and Newsmax; entertainment blog Hollywood Unlocked, TelevisaUnivision, the parent company of Spanish-language broadcaster Univision; and foreign policy news site Today News Africa.

Trump’s supposed advantage with Latinos isn’t all that it seemsOn Latinos specifically, Pew’s 2023 data showing Democrats with a 61% to 35% edge seemed to counter recent New York Times/Siena polling showing Trump with a 46% to 40% edge over Biden—6 points above George W. Bush's 40% share of the Latino vote in 2004, the high-water mark for Republicans. Pew puts considerable effort into surveying the U.S. Latino population, and some political analysts consider it the gold standard on Latino polling. The differences in outcomes between the Pew and Times polls are due to a number of variables, including the fact that Pew asked about party affiliation while the Times polled Trump-Biden support. But another factor—and a potential cautionary tale about polling Latinos—might be differences in the way the polls were conducted. In the fine print of its graph, Pew explains why its data for Latino voters only dates back to the mid-aughts while information for its other three demographic graphs date back to the 1990s. "Data for Hispanic voters shown only for years with interviews in English and Spanish," the text reads. In other words, the polling organization didn't view polling of Latinos conducted in English as sufficiently representative, even if the sample sizes were technically large enough. The Times poll conducted just 3% of its interviews of self-identified Latino voters in Spanish—a fact that UCLA political science professor, Democratic pollster, and Biden campaign adviser Matt Barreto currently highlights in his pinned tweet.

Somebody Remind Me. Why Are We Supporting Israel?
If they could get away with it a very large segment of the Israeli population and certainly the Netanyahu govt would march every Palestinian man, woman, and child into a gas chamber then the oven. They are far more dangerous than even maga because they are mass murdering people. And our govt including Biden is complicit. There are many good Israeli's just as there are many good Americans but not nearly enough.

They are far more dangerous than even maga because they are mass murdering people. And our govt including Biden is complicit. There are many good Israeli's just as there are many good Americans but not nearly enough. I know there are Israelis who want to get rid of all the Palestinians, although I don't think too many would support organized mass murder. They want to see the Arab world take them, just like US extremists want asians to go back to Asia, even if they were born here and their family goes back generations. I think most Israelis support the war against Hamas. Terrorist attacks will do that. Most Americans supported the invasions of both Afghanistan and Iraq after 9/11. The only good news is that Netanyahu is REALLY, REALLY unpopular. As for Biden, I don't like the way he has handled this. He has done a ton of things well, and the choice beteeen him and Trump isn't really a choice. I guess trying to work with Netanyahu is better than not doing anything, but I don't agree with sending him more weapons in the middle of this mess. Netanyahu brought this all on Israel. Hamas, Iran, all of it.
