Why Isn't This Headline News? Trump Admires Hitler
The former advisers—including former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, former National Security Adviser John Bolton and former Deputy National Security Adviser Matthew Pottinger—recalled the conversations to CNN’s Jim Sciutto in his book “The Return of Great Powers,” which is released Tuesday.
Kelly told Sciutto that Trump allegedly said Hitler “did some good things,” that he “rebuilt the economy” and maintained a strong influence over senior Nazi officials.
Why Isn't This Headline News? Trump Wants to Cut Social Security and Medicare
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump opened the door Monday to “cutting” spending under Social Security and Medicare, drawing swift pushback from President Joe Biden and elevating a key policy battle in the 2024 election.
Phoning into CNBC's "Squawk Box," Trump was pressed on how he plans to resolve the long-term solvency problems of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
“So first of all, there is a lot you can do in terms of entitlements, in terms of cutting,” Trump responded. “And in terms of, also, the theft and the bad management of entitlements — tremendous bad management of entitlements — there’s tremendous amounts of things and numbers of things you can do.”

If You Want a Great Deal on a Used Car, Come on Down and See Honest Don!
"I’ll give you those names if you like, but I’d rather get down to the serious business of defeating the worst President in the history of the United States, by far, Crooked Joe Biden!!!" Trump added. "For the good of our now failing Nation, and in order to inform the American people of what is going on in our Country, we must immediately have a full scale debate between Crooked Joe and Honest Don. "

Employee 5 Speaks
Brian Butler, a former Mar-a-Lago employee who is a key witness in the federal indictment over Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents, told CNN Monday the investigation into the former president is “not a witch hunt.”
Butler is referenced as “Trump Employee 5” in special counsel Jack Smith’s indictment. He told CNN he had “no clue” that he was potentially aiding the removal of classified documents when Trump’s valet Walt Nauta asked to borrow a car in June 2022 as the FBI was seeking the return of the files after Trump’s presidency.
CNN’s Kaitlan Collins asked Butler about the episode and why he was going public now with his account of the situation. The man has spoken to Smith’s team multiple times and given testimony to federal investigators.
“I personally would just say I just don’t believe that he should be a presidential candidate at this time. I think it’s time to move on,” Butler, who worked at Mar-a-Lago for more than 20 years, said. “I think the American people have the right to know the facts, that this is not a witch hunt.”
He went on to say that he was frustrated with Trump’s ability to get “up there all the time and say the things he says about ... this being a witch hunt and everything.
“He just can’t take responsibility for anything,” Butler added.
Butler added Monday that he was pressured to get an attorney aligned with the former president, but he has used his own lawyers throughout the case.
“I think it’s better to look after yourself and take care of it yourself,” he said. “You know, even the voicemail by the attorney that called me, you know, he says, “I’m representing former President Trump.’ Well, that does me no good. You’re representing him, not me. I mean, I wouldn’t even consider that.”

Do As I Say, Not As I Do
The MAGA firebrand who presents himself as a crusader against the federal government's "reckless spending" leads his peers in the House of Representatives when it comes to office expenses, according to a new analysis.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) was reimbursed for nearly $43,800 in office expenses in 2023, according to a Legistorm report filed Tuesday.
According to the report, that amounts to 99 percent of Gaetz's office allowance. The average is 86 percent. In 2022, Gaetz reported using 90 percent.
In October — the same month he moved to remove then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy over promised budget cuts —Gaetz published an opinion piece in Florida's Sun Sentinel called "I'm fighting against reckless spending in D.C."
"In Joe Biden’s America, families are having to pinch pennies, so Congress should too," wrote Gaetz. "Americans literally cannot afford Washington’s reckless spending."

"According to many that’s not according to be although according to me, it was also but I haven’t heard too many of them.”
“And let’s take a look at outside of the stock market, are, we’re going through hell. People are going through hell. If they have and I believe the number is 50%. They say 32 and 33%. I believe we have a cumulative inflation of over 50%, that means people are, you know, they have to make more than 50% more over a fairly short period of time to stay up. They’ve gotten routed. The middle class in our country has been routed and the middle class largely built our country and they have been treated very, very badly with policy.”
“When I was president, I was doing a job, we’re going to start to pay off debt. We were drill baby drill. We were producing oil but we were going at a much higher level oil and gas.
We were doing, you know, we were third when I started and when they ended we were one by a longshot and we were very close, we’re energy independence, we’re very close to becoming energy dominant Joe, we’re gonna be dominant so dominant, like double what Saudi Arabia and Russia were doing.”

You Don't Need Employees to Take the Money
Donald Trump’s newly installed leadership team at the Republican National Committee on Monday began the process of pushing out dozens of officials, according to two people close to the Trump campaign and the RNC.
All told, the expectation is that more than 60 RNC staffers who work across the political, communications and data departments will be let go. Those being asked to resign include five members of the senior staff, though the names were not made public. Additionally, some vendor contracts are expected to be cut.
In a letter to some political and data staff, Sean Cairncross, the RNC’s new chief operating officer, said that the new committee leadership was “in the process of evaluating the organization and staff to ensure the building is aligned” with its vision. “During this process, certain staff are being asked to resign and reapply for a position on the team.”
The overhaul is aimed at cutting, what one of the people described as, “bureaucracy” at the RNC. But the move also underscores the swiftness with which Trump’s operation is moving to take over the Republican Party’s operations after the former president all but clinched the party’s presidential nomination last week.

This Was Before the SOTU Speech
One poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation showed Biden leading Trump 47 percent to 44 percent. There were 1,072 registered voters surveyed between February 20 and 28 in this poll.
Another poll of 1,350 registered voters by Emerson College put Biden ahead of the Republican by two percentage points, 51 percent to 49 percent. The survey was carried out between March 5 and 6.
Of the 6,334 registered voters surveyed by Morning Consult between March 1 and 5, 44 percent would vote for Biden and 43 percent for Trump.
And Biden would beat Trump 43 percent to 42 percent, according to TIPP polling.
Of Course, They are All Within the Margin of Error, and It's WAY Too Early to Take These Seriously, But It May Help Talk Some People Off the Ledge. Just Don't Mention the Electoral College.

I Have Never Understood the Appeal of Trader Joes
Prosecutors at the National Labor Relations Board say Trader Joe’s illegally interrogated workers and threatened to take away their pay raises when they were trying to form a union last year.
The alleged threats came in the run-up to a January 2023 election at a Louisville, Kentucky, store where workers voted in favor of joining a new union, Trader Joe’s United. The company has challenged the election results by claiming the union illegally influenced the vote.
But according to the complaint filed Monday, prosecutors say it was Trader Joe’s that committed “unfair labor practices” meant to sway workers against unionizing.
The complaint states that an assistant store manager threatened workers with the loss of their raises as well as “a loss of flexibility with taking days off and scheduling work” if they voted for the union. It also alleges the company forced workers to “participate in one-on-one conversations” meant to hurt the union’s support.
