QOP Logic
The Real Republican Position on UkraineIt's not that Republicans hate fucking over migrants less; it's that they love fucking over Biden more. So let me make sure I’ve got this straight: Even Republicans who support Ukraine funding don’t support it enough to pass this funding without winning, in exchange, punishing changes to immigration rules; And even those Republicans who favor trading Ukraine funding for such punishing changes to immigration rules now don’t want these punishing changes to border policy, because that would involve giving President Biden a win concerning the border in the run-up to the election; And by “a win” here, what I actually mean is a loss, insofar as Biden would have to accept policy changes beyond those he actually wants, since if he agreed with Republican proposals, there would not have to be a protracted negotiation over them in the first place; Which is to say that Republicans don’t want a win against Biden if it would mean passing a bill they purport to want along with Ukraine aid they purport to support, as such a win would deprive them of the ability to criticize Biden for not capitulating in precisely the fashion that he now wants to capitulate; So in other words, not even the tantalizing prospect of fucking over migrants can induce even those Republicans who purport to support Ukraine not to fuck over the Ukrainians;

When the Right Ignores Its Sex ScandalsLet me share with you one of the worst and most important recent news stories that you’ve probably never heard about. Late last month, the Southern Baptist Convention settled a sex abuse lawsuit brought against a man named Paul Pressler for an undisclosed sum. The lawsuit was filed in 2017 and alleged that Pressler had raped a man named Duane Rollins for decades, with the rapes beginning when Rollins was only 14 years old. The story would be terrible enough if Pressler were simply an ordinary predator. But while relatively unknown outside of evangelical circles, Pressler is one of the most important American religious figures of the 20th century. He and his friend Paige Patterson, a former president of the Southern Baptist Convention, are two of the key architects of the so-called conservative resurgence within the S.B.C. A Reaction to the StoryI was standing in a bookstore, with a large Christian section, and I overheard the follwoing conversation. One woman told the other one that she finally was divorced from her physically abusive husband. The other woman asked why she put up with physical abuse. She said that she and her husband went to counciling with their minister of the faith this article is about, before she sought a divorce. Her friends and other church leaders had urged her to do so for their pre-teen children. At the counciling she said she could tell the minister was taking her husbands side. The counseling went on for a few weeks, with another abuse episode. The minister at the last session they had, suggested the following. If you know he is capable of abuse, why do you do the things that set him off? You need to modify your behavior. After all he is a provider, and the father to your children. She said she never went back, and shortly filed for divorce. Apparently protecting the men is the paramount mission for this denomination. I admit I was disturbed that a minister would take that position, it is the abused person's fault that they are abused. That pretty well goes with this article.

The Fix is In
The Kansas City Chiefs are going to the Super Bowl. Why are they going to the Super Bowl? Well, it has nothing to do with solid quarterback play. It’s for no other reason than to boost woke singing superstar Taylor Swift. MAGAs hate Swift, Swift loves the Chiefs (or is at least dating one), so if the Chiefs win MAGAs lose and if MAGAs lose it must be rigged.

Where's the Money Coming From?
To appeal, previous guy has to put up either money or a bond to cover the $83.3 million. That's around $90 million.
If he chooses a bond, he has to put up 20% in cash and find someone willing to loan him the other $70 million.
With a potential $300 million penalty coming in the New York fraud case, not too many banks are going to be excited to lend him $70 million.
Will he commit more fraud to try to get the loan?

Are You Smarter Than An Ex-President?
Trump has repeatedly insisted that the test is very hard, and earlier this month claimed it contains advanced math such as “multiply 3,293 times 4, divide by 3.” It does not, as can be seen on a sample test here.

Worst Headline of the Day Award Goes to the Washington Post
"Biden wooing battleground states and red states with research funds"
Biden administration officials on Monday announced $150 million in research funding for 18 states, most of which are contested or red, as part of a raft of policies to boost the nation’s manufacturing industries ahead of the election.
The battleground states of Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina and Wisconsin are among the places receiving funding to set up “innovation engines” for industries ranging from aerospace to textiles to energy under a new program overseen by the National Science Foundation.
Other states receiving the funding are Florida, Louisiana, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Wyoming, all of which President Donald Trump won in 2020. Five states that Biden won also received funding: Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico, New York and Virginia.
President Biden’s top economic adviser, Lael Brainard, director of the National Economic Council, told reporters that the program was an “integral” part of the president’s plan to support innovation “in regions that were left out of the recent decades’ technology boom.”
Biden’s investment push for U.S. manufacturing — dubbed “Investing in America” — may bolster his stance against Trump, who touts his trade war against China as a key accomplishment of his presidency. The Biden administration is also in the process of rolling out a whopping $52 billion in subsidies to U.S. semiconductor factories and research facilities across the country to ensure the United States retains leadership in next-generation technologies against China.
Four of 18 States Are Battleground States. And How is Releasing Funding, "Wooing"?

It's Not Delivery. It's Di Ripoff.Finance Buzz conducted a study to determine how much consumers overpay through food delivery services, and their findings are astonishing. To determine their results, researchers analyzed the cost of 10 food orders from 11 different restaurants on Uber Eats, GrubHub, DoorDash, and Postmates. The chains examined were Cava, Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, Dunkin, Jason’s Deli, Jersey Mike’s, McDonald’s, Panda Express, Panera, Starbucks, and Tropical Cafe. They then analyzed how much in additional fees, like taxes, tips, and delivery charges, each restaurant and platform charged consumers. The study found that, of the 11 restaurants studied, Chick-fil-A customers see the most extreme delivery markups. The chain charges anywhere between 82 percent (Uber Eats) to 149 percent (GrubHub) more than in-store menu prices on delivery apps. An order that would cost you $9.25 in-store at Chick-fil-A will run you $23.01 through GrubHub, or $16.87 on Uber Eats. Coffee kings Starbucks and Dunkin tied for second place, with online consumers seeing menu markups anywhere from 52 percent (GrubHub) to 102 percent (Postmates). A $9.48 in-store order goes for as much as $19.12, depending which app you use. Tying for third place were fast-casual Mediterranean chain Cava and fairly small, Texas-based establishment Jason’s Deli, which boasts just 245 locations. Consumers of both chains see delivery app price increases between 47 percent (GrubHub) and 87 percent (Postmates). Even for the restaurants experiencing less app inflation, the increase over in-store prices was still considerable. A lunch order from Chipotle totaling just $18.42 runs to nearly $40 through Postmates. An $11.18 order from McDonald’s will cost you $19.96 on the same app, with a 79 percent increase. In terms of fees charged by the apps, PostMates was unsurprisingly found to have the highest markups, with the service charging as much as 105 percent more than an item’s given menu price. The study found that ordering a simple beverage and muffin from Starbucks via Postmates will cost you twice as much as the same order in-store. DoorDash had the second-highest markup, with a 95 percent increase over menu price. GrubHub users see a 93 percent increase, while Uber Eats users are making out relatively well. They only see an 80 percent increase in menu prices. Study Finds Which Chains, Delivery Apps Charge the Highest Markups

What to Do? What to Do?How the US could hit back against IranThe killing of three American soldiers in a suicide drone strike by Iran-backed militants on Sunday was the deadliest aerial attack on US ground forces since the Korean War. Joe Biden has promised to strike back. “We will carry on their commitment to fight terrorism, and have no doubt – we will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner of our choosing,” he said on Sunday With a huge weight of force in the region, the question now turns to what exactly that retaliation will be.
