Dijon vu - the same mustard as before.
The Brand with a Stupid Name Has a Stupid Founder
Outside the Lululemon shop at Ponce City Market in Atlanta on Thursday, Donna Martin, a Black woman seeking yoga gear, learned that the company’s founder, Chip Wilson, had publicly bashed the notion of the brand embracing diversity.
“I don’t get it,” Martin, a project manager at a telecommunications company, said. “But I do get it. This is the world in which we live now, where someone who created a brand doesn’t want everyone supporting that brand. It’s so ridiculous.”
She shook her head. “I got the memo,” Martin said as she walked away from the store.
DEI experts like Tiffany Brandreth said Martin had the right idea: Black consumers concerned about Wilson’s latest dismissal of diversity, equity and inclusion should consider boycotting the retailer.
“There should be a loud call to action for a widespread boycott of corporations that overtly disparage and label DEI as practices rooted in racism and discrimination,” said Brandreth, an organizational psychologist who specializes in DEI. “It’s crucial for anyone who claims to be an ally for DEI to send a powerful message that these regressive values will not be supported that goes beyond mere rhetoric.”
Wilson founded Lululemon in 1998 and stepped down as CEO in 2013, but still owns the majority of the company’s shares, which are valued at $4 billion, according to Forbes.
During an interview with Forbes published Jan. 2, he blasted the company’s “whole diversity and inclusion thing.” He also sounded off on Lululemon’s ads because they featured people he called “unhealthy,” “sickly” and “not inspirational.”
“They’re trying to become like the Gap, everything to everybody,” Wilson said. “And I think the definition of a brand is that you’re not everything to everybody. You’ve got to be clear that you don’t want certain customers coming in.”

Saved by the Funny. (Why Quotation Marks Around "Funny"?)Reporter Fired For Comedy Act Hired Back After Arbitrator Declares Jokes 'Funny'A reporter who was fired for his standup comedy has been reinstated to his job at a Philadelphia-based public radio station through an arbitrator, who agreed that his jokes were, in some part, funny. Jad Sleiman, 34, is to be fully reinstated to his position with WHYY, a Philadelphia-based NPR station, after an arbitrator determined that, while the bits posted to social media could be interpreted as “inflammatory,” the organization “rushed to judgment” in its decision to terminate him. In a phone call Friday, Sleiman said he felt vindicated by the decision and plans to return to work. “When a news organization says you’re a racist, bigot, whatever, people believe them,” he said. “So it was a lot of abuse from a lot of people who have never met me, who’ve never seen my stand-up just saw what WHYY said about me, which is not great.” A message seeking comment emailed to WHYY was not immediately returned. Sleiman said he was considering further legal action for statements made by WHYY about his character. Sleiman had been working as a reporter on The Pulse, a nationally syndicated health and science program, since 2018 when he was terminated a year ago after executives found his social media account — under Jad S. or @jadslay — that posted clips of his standup comedy.

It's Nice to Get Paid $1 Million to Lie Once a Week
ESPN issued an apology Friday afternoon for the false comments New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers made on "The Pat McAfee Show" earlier this week about late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.
Through ESPN vice president of digital production Mike Foss, the network called the comments Rodgers made about Kimmel in relation to the release of the Jeffrey Epstein court documents "a dumb and factually inaccurate joke."
"It never should have happened," Foss said in a statement obtained by USA TODAY Sports. "We all realized that in the moment."
From NFL plays to college sports scores, all the top sports news you need to know every day.
Front Office Sports first reported the ESPN apology. McAfee said Friday that Rodgers will appear on the show next Tuesday.
"The show will continue to evolve," Foss told FOS. "It wouldn't surprise me if Aaron's role evolves with it."
Kimmel took to social media Tuesday night to blast Rodgers and say he never had any contact with Epstein, who died by suicide while imprisoned in 2019.
Earlier that day, McAfee co-host A.J. Hawk egged Rodgers on about the potential release of the court documents, to which the 40-year-old quarterback responded: "There's a lot of people, including Jimmy Kimmel who are hoping that doesn't come out ... if that list comes out, I will definitely be popping some sort of bottles."
The situation created internal strife at ESPN's parent company Disney, which also owns ABC, where "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" airs.
Rodgers is paid $1 million annually for his weekly appearances on McAfee's show, according to reports. On Wednesday, McAfee offered a half-hearted apology, saying he hopes his show is a positive one that uplifts people.

A Billionaire Who Isn't An Asshole
Employees of the Dallas Mavericks are going to be some happy campers soon after owner Mark Cuban said he will be paying them $35 million in bonuses.
The windfall comes after Cuban sold his majority stake in the team to casino mogul Miriam Adelson and her family for $3.5 billion. The new Mavericks governor will be Patrick Dumont, the CEO and president of Las Vegas Sands Corporation and Adelson's son-in-law.
Cuban still retains 27% ownership and will be handling basketball operations for the team. Cuban sent an email to employees informing them of the bonus.
From NFL plays to college sports scores, all the top sports news you need to know every day.
“As a thank you for all your hard work making the Mavs an amazing organization, each of you will be receiving a bonus from myself, and the Adelson and Dumont families,” an email, obtained by ESPN.com, read. “In total we will be paying out approximately $35 plus million dollars in bonuses to you all.
“To calculate your bonus, we used a framework that took into consideration how long you have worked for the Mavs. You will receive your bonus in the very near future. I’m excited to continue our work making the Mavs the best franchise in all of sports! Let’s go Mavs!”

You Can Check Out Any Time You Like, But You Can Never LeaveOlder Americans say they feel trapped in Medicare Advantage plansTraditional Medicare can be too expensive for beneficiaries switching back from Medicare Advantage, he said. In traditional Medicare, enrollees pay a monthly premium and, after reaching a deductible, in most cases are expected to pay 20% of the cost of each nonhospital service or item they use. And there is no limit on how much an enrollee may have to pay as part of that 20% coinsurance if they end up using a lot of care, Meyers said. To limit what they spend out-of-pocket, traditional Medicare enrollees typically sign up for supplemental insurance, such as employer coverage or a private Medigap policy. If they are low-income, Medicaid may provide that supplemental coverage. But, Meyers said, there’s a catch: While beneficiaries who enrolled first in traditional Medicare are guaranteed to qualify for a Medigap policy without pricing based on their medical history, Medigap insurers can deny coverage to beneficiaries transferring from Medicare Advantage plans or base their prices on medical underwriting. Only four states — Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and New York — prohibit insurers from denying a Medigap policy if the enrollee has preexisting conditions such as diabetes or heart disease.

comments New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers made...
He and Favre have really tarnished their images with their trumpian positions. I'm surprised the Jets haven't told him to keep his mouth shut.
