Lafayette should provide a bit tougher test than St. Francis. They are different in many ways.
But this game (and the next) are less about the opponent and more about how UCLA executes. Nonetheless, there is a little about the team from Easton, PA.
Lafayette wasn't as bad as St. Francis last season. They finished #264 in KenPom. SFU finished #336.
They had a couple of Quad 3 wins, and they only lost by 13 at Miami, who went to the Final Four. They also lost by 13 at Penn State.
They finished tied for 6th in the 10-team Patriot League. This year they were picked to finish 7th in the league pre-season poll.
They lost their top 5 scorers, They return their top rebounder, Kyle Jenkins, but lose #2-#5. Jenkins was also their #2 assist man. They return their #3 and #6 three-point shooters.
They lost their opener 81-60 at St. Joseph's. St Joseph's was #191 in KenPom last season. Here's the box score.
Hines scored 15 points on 5 of 9 shooting with 3 of 5 from the arc.
Jenkins scored 8 on 4 of 7 shooting, He was perfect inside the arc and missed all three shots from outside.
The rest of the team put up bricks as they shot 37% as a team.
Their 7-ffoter went 2 of 8 from the field, and both of his baskets were 3-pointers. He was 2 of 3 from outside. He had only 3 rebounds.
I don't think it's a big stretch to say we are better than St. Joeseph's.
KenPom gives us a 99% chance to win the game and a predicted score of 78-52.
Torvick gives us 97% and predicts 78-58.
