Someone asked me what the 9th letter of the Alphabet was. It was a complete guess, but I was right.
I See So-Called "American Jewish Leaders" on TV Speaking for American Jews. They Don't Speak for Me.
Netanyahu will certainly try to evade his responsibility and cast the blame on the heads of the army, Military Intelligence and the Shin Bet security service who, like their predecessors on the eve of the Yom Kippur War, saw a low probability of war with their preparations for a Hamas attack proving flawed.
They scorned the enemy and its offensive military capabilities. Over the next days and weeks, when the depth of Israel Defense Forces and intelligence failures come to light, a justified demand to replace them and take stock will surely arise.
However, the military and intelligence failure does not absolve Netanyahu of his overall responsibility for the crisis, as he is the ultimate arbiter of Israeli foreign and security affairs. Netanyahu is no novice in this role, like Ehud Olmert was in the Second Lebanon War. Nor is he ignorant in military matters, as Golda Meir in 1973 and Menachem Begin in 1982 claimed to be.
Netanyahu also shaped the policy embraced by the short-lived “government of change” led by Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid: a multidimensional effort to crush the Palestinian national movement in both its wings, in Gaza and the West Bank, at a price that would seem acceptable to the Israeli public.
Israel Will Try Again for a Military Solution to a Problem That Has No Military Solution. There is no Solution As Long As Israel Does Not See Themselves As Part of the Problem.

A Significant Win for the UAW.
The UAW was poised to tap 5,000 members at GM’s assembly plant in Arlington, Texas, as part of its latest stand-up strike escalation. These workers would have joined 25,000 already on strike at five assembly plants and 38parts distribution centers nationwide.
But in the eleventh hour, GM agreed to put battery manufacturing facilities for electric vehicles into its national union contract. [...]
The companies have argued that the union can’t legally negotiate over EV battery plants, but apparently the threat of a widening strike changed GM’s horizons. [...]
The significance of GM’s concession is even greater when you consider that the Arlington plant plans to reduce production of SUVs at the facility in favor of all-electric alternatives.

What Didn't Happen This Week?
CLAIM: The Biden administration is giving people who enter the U.S illegally payments of $2,200 per month.
THE FACTS: Those who are in the U.S. illegally are not eligible for any cash assistance, with rare exceptions, immigration experts told The Associated Press. Certain groups, such as refugees and people granted asylum, can receive financial benefits from the federal government, though not as high as $2,200 each month.
CLAIM: Japan stopped mandatory childhood vaccinations in 1994, vastly improving the country’s infant mortality rate. By contrast, the U.S. has the highest childhood vaccination rate and has “the worst infant mortality rate of the western nations.”
THE FACTS: Both countries have similar and very high childhood vaccination rates, despite their differing policies. And while it’s true that Japan has a lower infant mortality rate than the U.S., public health experts say it is not because of vaccines, which actually reduce death in vaccine-preventable diseases.
CLAIM: Thousands of children are missing following the deadly wildfires on Maui.
THE FACTS: Lists compiled by the Maui Police Department and the FBI contained only one minor who was unaccounted for following the August fires, and the child was later identified as a victim of the blaze. Despite this, false claims that thousands of children remain missing are spreading on social media.

Who Won the Week?
Former Emily's List president Laphonza Butler, who was sworn in as California's new U.S. senator, filling the late Dianne Feinstein's seat
Judge Arthur Engoron, for slapping Donald Trump with a gag order after the criminal defendant attacked the judge's clerk. (Violation = jail time)
The late-night hosts for returning, post-strike, to their respective stages just in time to skewer the Republican sh*t show in the House (and Kimmel scores 6-year-high ratings)
Connecticut, for enacting their most sweeping gun control laws since the Sandy Hook shooting
Democrats in the House, for throwing insurrection-supporting wacko liar and now-former Speaker Kevin McCarthy an anvil
Member of Parliament Greg Fergus, who became the first Black speaker of Canada's House of Commons
The federal court that finalized Alabama's new congressional map, which now includes an additional majority-Black district
The Nobel Prize winners, who won for their work on mRNA vaccines, electrons, and quantum dots, with special mention to jailed Iranian women's rights activist Narges Mohammadi who was awarded the Peace Prize
Simone Biles, who became the first woman to land the Yurchenko double pike vault (aka the Biles II) and won her first world championship gold medal after a two-year brea

I Guess "No Labels" Shares a Friend with Clarence.
“… Follow the money! That’s not easy to do, though, for this gaggle of conservative corporatists slyly incorporated as a nonprofit “social welfare” outfit – a deceit that lets it hide the names of its political funders from the public. The New Republic, however, got records revealing that No Labels is a fat cat front, with Texas billionaire Republican Harlan Crow leading the way.
Who? Crow is the political patron who has secretly been lavishing luxury gifts and cash on Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who in turn has embraced Crow’s plutocratic positions in court cases.”

After Joking About Violence Against Nancy Pelosi's Husband, Previous Guy Doubles Down on Violence Against Old People
Donald Trump at a rally in Iowa on Saturday claimed that President Joe Biden would "go down" if the two were to physically fight.
Trump, who has been criticized for increasingly violent rhetoric as his legal cases have put more pressure on him, began discussing photos of Biden on the beach.
"I have a much better body than him," the former president said at the rally. He then added that he's "not sure" he would want to "expose it with the sun blaring down" on him.
Trump continued along the same line of thought, calling Biden "very, very old" despite the two politicians being roughly the same age.
Prev Guy Also Goes for the Cannibal Vote
Former President Donald Trump ate up alleged support from “Hannibal Lecter” in a terrifying slip-up at an Iowa rally.
The former president criticized open border policies on Saturday and claimed people were coming to America from “insane asylums” before bringing up “The Silence of the Lambs.”
“Hannibal Lecter, how great an actor was he?” said Trump in a mix-up between the fictional character’s name and Anthony Hopkins, the actor who played the cannibal in the 1991 film.
“You know why I like him? Because he said on television on one of the – ‘I love Donald Trump.’ So I love him. I love him. I love him. He said that a long time ago and once he said that, he was in my camp, I was in his camp. I don’t care if he was the worst actor, I’d say he was great to me.”
Hopkins has not publicly supported Trump and neither have other actors who have portrayed Hannibal Lecter including Mads Mikkelsen and Brian Cox, the latter of whom called Trump “such a fucking asshole” and “so full of shit.”

Rather than kill hundreds of civilians the Palestinians should have devised a way to take out Netanyahu. He's the whole problem.

Rather than kill hundreds of civilians the Palestinians should have devised a way to take out Netanyahu. He's the whole problem. He has made the problem worse, but Israel has given way too much power to the extremist Jews for way too long. Their settlements policy has been a disaster for a lasting solution. The Palestineans aren't blameless in this. However, they are not the ones with the power to solve things, as long as the Israelis cling to the idea that God promised them this land.

I think they are phony hypocrites and they don't believe for a second that any god gave them the right to suppress people and steal their land. The Israeli hard right is doing what the hard right does everywhere, line the pockets of the rich at the expense of the poor. And in this case it's even more reprehensible because they hide behind their religion. We should have stopped sending them money and weapons years ago.
