Let's Take a Moment to Appreciate How Hard Life is For Sidney Powell. She Has to Take Off Her Shoes.
Noted Donald Trump ally Sidney Powell quietly revealed in a recent filing that she allegedly lost her "longstanding trusted traveler status" when it was revoked by TSA for her purported "criminal history," and legal experts were quick to react online.
Powell, who on Tuesday won the right to get consensual interviews with grand jurors in the Georgia election conspiracy case, made the TSA revelation in her motion to dismiss filing. The footnote was first noticed by a Washington Post correspondent.
A Lawfare correspondent said it's "an odd footnote to include in a motion to dismiss," but added that she's "sure it makes more sense when you look at the context." She then provided the context from the motion, which included claims that Powell had been "dragged through the mud" due to the allegedly false charges.
Law professor Anthony Michael Kreis said of the Powell footnote, "I have changed my mind about Sydney Powell upon learning she must go through regular airport security now. Fulton County simply must free her in the interest of human dignity."
In a separate thread, fellow law professor Lee Kovarsky said, "DID YOU KNOW THAT SIDNEY POWELL CAN'T USE TSA PRE-CHECK ANYMORE??"
"If Jeffrey Clark is most vile, loathsome, and pathetic of the defendants, Sidney Powell is the funniest. All these clowns in one place, and she's the one everyone wants to kick out of the car."

The QOP Reveals Their New War on Poverty Poor People
House Republicans unveiled a budget blueprint on Tuesday that proposes trillions of dollars in federal spending reductions over the next decade, specifically targeting Medicaid and federal nutrition assistance for steep cuts.
House Budget Committee Republicans' new resolution also calls for the establishment of a "bipartisan debt commission" to examine and propose changes to "the drivers of U.S. debt... such as Social Security and Medicare." (Social Security does not, in fact, contribute to long-term federal deficits.)
"MAGA Republicans are driving our nation towards a costly government shutdown because they want to make cruel cuts to everything from healthcare to education, and this MAGA Budget doubles down on their extreme cuts," Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-Pa.), the top Democrat on the House Budget Committee, said in response to the new proposal.
"Make no mistake: America is barreling towards a government shutdown because Republicans reneged on the bipartisan budget agreement in their thirst for cruel budget cuts—cuts which will raise the cost of living when it's already too high," Boyle added.
The Republican proposal, which has no chance of becoming law given Democratic control of the Senate, would cut federal discretionary spending by nearly $5 trillion over the next decade, Roll Callreported Tuesday. The plan would cut mandatory spending—a category that includes Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)—by nearly $9 trillion over a 10-year period.
The proposal would gash federal Medicaid spending by close to $2 trillion and SNAP by $800 billion. The resolution also calls for punitive new work requirements for the two programs.

It's Hard to Exagerate What a Shit Show the Republican House is these Days"A House vote on a procedural rule that would have allowed amendments and debate on the defense appropriations bill failed, 212-214," reported Lindsey McPhebyrson and Warren Rojas. "The five ultraconservatives who voted against the rule – Andy Biggs of Arizona, Dan Bishop of North Carolina, Ken Buck of Colorado, Ralph Norman of South Carolina and Matt Rosendale of Montana – have been engaged in a larger blockade on all appropriations measures as they seek deeper spending cuts." According to the report, even some far-right lawmakers who voted with McCarthy are blaming him for the impasse. "Many of us have been telling the speaker he needs to show us the entire puzzle and his commitment to getting to the pre-COVID spending levels," said Rep. Bob Good (R-VA), who voted to advance the rule. "We wanted to see that commitment for the entire package. If he would have done that, that would have passed. It's the speaker's failure." This comes amid reporting that House Republicans are punting on a major vote on a 30-day continuing resolution with steep spending cuts, with just 11 days left to avert a shutdown and a lack of support from the Senate or the White House for McCarthy's plan. McCarthy, for his part, has been begging his caucus to get on board with his plan despite the seeming hopelessness of it passing, telling them that the GOP will "hit a tree" if they fail to keep the government open. Amid all of this, the Speaker is facing escalating threats from the extreme faction of the GOP of a vote to vacate his chair, which would potentially cripple the House's ability to pass anything in the time it would take to either re-confirm him or select a new Speaker. Raw Story exclusively reported that a copy of a motion by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) to vacate the chair was found discarded in a restroom in the Capitol. Morning Joe and George Conway bash GOP 'clown show' over looming shutdownThe "Morning Joe" host echoed the criticism of Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY), who bashed the hardliners in his caucus as "lunatics" and a "clown show," and Scarborough said today's Republicans were a far cry from those he served with more than two decades ago. "I'll tell you when I was in Congress, we were blessed to actually have people who wanted to balance the budget, so we balanced the budget four years in a row, only time it's happened in a century," Scarborough said. "Here, though, George Conway, this is -- unlike that group that balanced the budget, paid down the debt, did a lot of other things, this group doesn't really care about balancing budget. They don't really care about policy, they have shown us that time and time again. It's all gesturing."

Half-million-year-old wooden structure unearthed in ZambiaThe discovery of ancient wooden logs in the banks of a river in Zambia has changed archaeologists' understanding of ancient human life. Researchers found evidence the wood had been used to build a structure almost half a million years ago. The findings, published in the journal Nature, suggest stone-age people built what may have been shelters. "This find has changed how I think about our early ancestors," archaeologist Prof Larry Barham said.

After 8 Years of Previous Guy, the Media Are Still Suckers.
A real fact-check of Trump's appearance on Meet the Press
The unmistakable message was fact-checking Trump was less important than the spectacle of Trump and, therefore, relegated to the website. NBC also published a list of the "11 top moments" from Trump's interview. None of those moments highlighted any of the false statements by Trump.
"The television event also highlighted a problem that traditional news outlets have faced since Trump emerged as a potent figure on the political scene in 2016," LA Times TV critic Lorraine Ali wrote. "Treating the former reality TV star like any other presidential candidate or victor before him assumes that he’s playing by the same set of rules as his predecessors. News flash: He’s not."
After airing the interview, [new host Kristen] Welker transitioned into the standard Meet The Press roundtable discussion. Peter Baker, Chief White House Correspondent for The New York Times, noted that Trump was "a bulldozer, shoveling falsehoods and lies throughout your interview." Baker, however, claimed that Welker was "fact-checking him all along the way."
The truth is that most of Trump's lies were not addressed by Welker or the online fact-check that likely reached a tiny fraction of the viewing audience. Popular Information has identified at least 10 false claims by Trump that were ignored by NBC News during the interview and in the online fact check.

A Tree Grows in Lahaina
The historic banyan tree in Lahaina is showing signs of recovery after being badly damaged during the deadly wildfires in Maui last month, officials announced this week.
Hawaii’s Department of Land and Natural Resources posted a video to Instagram showing fresh leaves sprouting from blackened branches, a moment of positive news amid the ongoing recovery in Lahaina. A devastating blaze swept through the town last month, killing at least 97 people and all but obliterating entire blocks of homes and businesses.
