There are two kinds of people in Florida. Those who think Ron Desantis should be President, and those who have met him.
The Smile That Can Sink 1,000 Ships
DeSantis seemed to attempt a smile at the end of an applause line, then either thought better of it or simply failed to pull it off during the Fox News event

Officials in Florida are warning residents to keep their distance from wild monkeys that have been spotted around the city.
Residents of Orange City, about 30 miles north of Orlando, have reported multiple sightings of wild monkeys within the city, the Orange City Police Department said in a Facebook post Wednesday.
The department said at least one of those monkeys — spotted Wednesday at a local Popeye's — was later identified as a Rhesus macaque monkey, a species that is native to Asia and can become aggressive when fed, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Is Rudy On Drugs?
Rudy Giuliani lashed out at President Joe Biden and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis over his prosecution for alleged election interference in Georgia.
During an appearance on Steve Bannon's War Room program on Thursday, Giuliani accused Biden of "100 incidents of violations of people's constitutional rights."
He argued that the U.S. justice system was the envy of the world until it was "trashed by this, in this particular situation, dictator and his regime."
"And this one [Fulton County case], it maybe is the worst because it's the most absurd," the longtime attorney said.
Giuliani insisted he shouldn't be charged in the election conspiracy because he had a "right to exaggerate" on behalf of Donald Trump.
The former New York mayor then took a shot at Willis.
"For a lawyer to bring an indictment like that indicates, number one, you don't understand the law and number two, you're not an American," he said. "You're something else."
Giuliani then veered into a rant about former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
"Now we know these people are heavily influenced by communism," he said. "We know Obama was trained by communists. Hillary was trained by communists."
Apparently Rudy Was Trained by Lunatics. Do You Want to Pay $100,000 to Listen to This?

Are These Guys (and Gal) Deaf, Dumb, and Blind? One of the most illuminating moments in the Republican debate came 20 minutes in. The reaction to it was swift and - among some young people and scientists - angry. Did humans contribute to climate change? That was the question from the Fox News moderators to the eight presidential hopefuls on stage. After reading out some statistics from the deadly Hawaii wildfires, they played a clip from a member of the Young Americans for Freedom, a conservative youth activist organisation, who said climate was the number one issue for young people. Asked to raise their hand if they thought mankind was to blame, not one went up. And only one candidate said climate change was real in the short discussion that followed. Republican debate: What they said (and didn't say) about climateThe QOP May Be Deniers. The GOP? Not So Much.Even Most Republicans Aren't Deniers Any More, Consider Climate A Problem, Want Gov't Action[/b] Per Question 9, 44% of Republicans respondents said climate change is “a crisis” (9%) or "a major problem but not a crisis" (36%), and another 39% considered it at least "a minor problem." Only 17% replied that it was "not a problem at all," which is effectively the stance of the Republican Party. That’s probably why, per row 104, 51% of Republicans don't trust the Republican party "much" or "at all" to address climate change in the US. In row 108 you can see that 51% of Republicans also answered that, "all else equal," they'd prefer the next president to be "someone who favors government action to address climate change" over "someone who opposes government action to address climate change."

Judges Are Not Happy WIth Dumb Election Lawsuits and Bad Lawyers
Election lawyer Marc Elias revealed the Arizona Supreme Court has just sanctioned the Republican National Committee.
Failed Republican attorney general candidate Abe Hamadeh had asked the state Supreme Court to overturn his 2022 loss and issue a new trial. Hamadeh lost to Democrat Kris Mayes by just 280 votes.
His earlier attempts in court have failed.
The request comes from claims that there were over 500 "uncounted votes in Pinal County," reported the Arizona Mirror last week. "He also alleges that changes made to Service Arizona and the Arizona Voter Information Database resulted in as many as 1,000 rejected provisional ballots."
The problem is that they went straight from Mohave County Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen's rejection came in July, and the case should have gone to the court of appeals. But Hamadeh skipped that step.
Hamadeh’s bid for a do-over, saying the time for election contests is long past and his revised arguments still don’t include any actual proof.
The Arizona Supreme Court's ruling said: "Because Petitioners were not only aware that they needed a final judgment to seek appellate relief but also misrepresented to this Court that they had sought such relief when they had not done so, and because this representation was the underlying premise upon which this petition was brought, and because all of Petitioners' claims for trial court error can be presented on appeal, we find that the special action unnecessarily expanded the proceeding and compelled Respondents to incur the unnecessary expense of filing their court-ordered response."
"Therefore, IT IS FURTHER ORDERED (sic) granting Respondent Mayes' and Respondent Fontes' request against Petitioners ... and for their reasonable attorney fees incurred to respond to the petition," it continued.
Elias said via social media that the "RNC and Hamadeh" must pay the other side's attorney fees.

The Taliban Want Their Women As Dumb As Possible.
Dozens of Afghan women granted scholarships to study in the United Arab Emirates have been blocked from leaving Afghanistan, one of the women told AFP on Thursday, following outcry from their Emirati sponsor.
Laila, 22, was one of around 30 women who had been sponsored to study in the UAE by prominent Emirati businessman Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, but were stopped from departing on their flights from Kabul airport on Wednesday.
Women and girls were banned from attending high school and university in Afghanistan after Taliban authorities took control of the country in August 2021.
"It was our only hope to go abroad to continue our education," said Laila, whose name has been changed for fear of reprisals.
"This was an amazing opportunity for us but, like everything else, this opportunity was taken from us."
She was due to start a law degree in Dubai, having been forced to abandon her journalism studies under the Taliban government ban.
Laila said she and the other women made it to their departure gate but were turned away at the last moment by men in airport uniforms who said they had an order that those with student visas were not allowed to leave the country.

Don't Try This On Halloween. Kids Will Eat Too Many Treats.
"The police outlined their accusations in a Facebook post on Monday," reported Marielle Descalsota. "In the post, police said the man — who they identified as Angkhan Vorac Chhieng — used the fog machine along Bangla Walking Street in Potong Beach at 2:30 a.m. on August 18. The street in Patong — a beach resort town in Phuket — has been known for its nightlife for years, and has more recently become home to many cannabis dispensaries."
An Instagram post shows Angkhan walking around spraying people with the spiked fog, using a device that he called the "kush cannon."
According to the report, Angkhan, who owns a marijuana lifestyle company in California called Kush, freely admitted to authorities that he was promoting a foreign marijuana product, and "did not think it would be an inappropriate action."
Marijuana was legalized in Thailand last year — the first Asian country to do so — but there are still extensive public nuisance laws regulating it, with public smoking punishable by up a $780 fine or three months in jail.

It Wasn't a Hard Question, Ron
The morning after the first Republican Party presidential nominee debate, MSNBC "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough burst out laughing at a clip of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) becoming flustered when the nominees were asked if former vice president Mike Pence was right to not help Donald Trump steal the election.
Pence, who has become a pariah among the MAGA faithful for balking at Trump's plan to stall the certification of the 2020 presidential election results, received immediate support among the nominees on Wednesday night but DeSantis seemed upset by the question.
That led to Scarborough mocking the Florida Republican. POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
"Poor Ron DeSantis melted down when they asked him, did Mike Pence do the right thing?" the laughing Scarborough told his panel.
"It wasn't a hard question, Ron!" he exclaimed. "It's a real simple 'Yeah, I like the Constitution.'"

7 Out Of 8 Republicans AgreeRepublican Debaters Agreed on One Thing: They Hate Vivek RamaswamyEveryone hates Vivek. That was the biggest takeaway from the Fox News debate on Wednesday night. And who can blame them? “I’m the only person on the stage who isn’t bought and paid for,” Vivek Ramaswamy boldly declared after calling climate change a “hoax.” This broadside was arguably the moment that Ramaswamy became the most hated person on the debate stage, at least by his Republican adversaries. Ramaswamy, a slick, young, rich man in a hurry (who has been gaining in the polls), came into this debate with the idea that he should pander to the base with impunity and simultaneously be involved in every skirmish. This is often a smart move, akin to controlling the clock in a football game.

TucKKKer and Previous Guy. Of Course It Got Weird
Donald Trump’s attempt to dominate the Republican presidential debate from afar Wednesday night veered into dark and occasionally bizarre territory as he mused with commentator Tucker Carlson about potential civil war, the manner of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s death in prison and whether he’s concerned about potential assassination attempts.

This Is Not Kosher
Nicaragua’s government on Wednesday declared the Jesuit religious order illegal and ordered the confiscation of all its property.
The move comes one week after the government of President Daniel Ortega confiscated the Jesuit-run University of Central America in Nicaragua, arguing it was a “center of terrorism.”
The confiscation order published Wednesday claimed the Roman Catholic order had failed to comply with tax reporting.
It was the latest in a series of increasingly authoritarian actions by the Nicaraguan government against the Catholic Church and opposition figures. The Jesuit order, known as the Society of Jesus, has condemned the measures.
The University of Central America in Nicaragua was a hub for 2018 protests against the Ortega regime.

Who Predicted This Would Happen, Except for Everyone.
The passenger manifest of the plane that went down in Russia is essentially a who's who of Wagner mercenaries: Its second-in-command, who baptized the group with his nom de guerre. The logistics chief. A fighter wounded by U.S. airstrikes in Syria. At least one possible bodyguard.
And, of course, Yevgeny Prigozhin himself, Wagner's leader and mutineer who many believed was a marked man after his short-lived uprising in June against the Russian military.
In all, the other passengers included six of Prigozhin's lieutenants, along with the three-member flight crew.
Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin’s jet is said to have been taken down by a bomb hidden in a wine crate, sources say.

I Think Biden Has Done the Best JobAbout four-in-ten Republicans and Republican-leaning independents (41%) say Reagan has done the best job as president over the past 40 years. Slightly fewer (37%) say Trump has done the best job, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted in July. Nearly six-in-ten Democrats and Democratic leaners (58%) say Obama has done the best job as president in the past 40 years. Far fewer name Bill Clinton (19%) or Joe Biden (7%), who is running for reelection in 2024. In the last four decades, four Republicans and three Democrats have served as president. Among U.S. adults overall, 32% say Obama has done the best job during this period, followed by Reagan (23%), Trump (19%) and Clinton (12%). Relatively small shares name Biden, George W. Bush or George H.W. Bush (4% or less for each). Americans’ views of which presidents have done the best job in the past 40 years are largely unchanged since a September 2021 Center survey. The new survey was conducted after Trump was indicted in federal court in Florida on charges related to improper handling of classified documents, but before indictments charging him with attempts to overturn the 2020 election were returned in federal court in Washington, D.C., and in state court in Georgia. These are all on billboards around Milwaukee, site of tonight's Republican debate.

Lock Them Up!
To save an economy in free fall, congressional Democrats and Republicans starting in 2020 adopted a series of coronavirus aid packages totaling roughly $5 trillion. The money aimed to ease the strain on the hospitals and doctors, save cash-starved small businesses from financial ruin and support millions of Americans suddenly without a job.
But the speed at which Washington tried to dole out the funds — combined with decades of state and federal mismanagement — ultimately opened the door for waste, fraud and abuse that law enforcement officials are now beginning to identify.
The Justice Department said Wednesday that it had filed charges or at least launched investigations related to roughly $8.6 billion in alleged coronavirus aid fraud since the start of the pandemic. That included hundreds of new cases, pleas, sentences and other developments secured as part of an enforcement campaign it ramped up from May through July.
The new push to prosecute fraud comes roughly five months after President Biden promised to penalize those who stole untold billions in coronavirus funds. This March, Biden urged lawmakers to adopt $1.6 billion to help the Justice Department pursue criminals that stole pandemic money, along with new powers that might help the government prevent future abuse in other aid programs.
