Did you hear there is a coin shortage in America? We're running out of common cents.
Oh No!!! It's Cannon
One day after being indicted on charges carrying a potential sentence of 100 years in a federal penitentiary, it might seem unlikely that Donald Trump would be celebrating. However, this morning at Mar-a-Lago had to be filled with champagne corks and party streamers because the announcement just came out about which judge has been appointed to handle Trump’s case.
ABC News reports that the judge will be Aileen Cannon.
That would be the same Trump-appointed, Trump-serving Cannon who completely overlooked existing law to appoint a “special master” to help Trump keep documents from being reviewed by the Department of Justice. The same Cannon who supported the most ridiculous claims from Trump’s third-rate legal team. The same Cannon who, when the special master made reasonable demands on Trump’s team, overruled the judge she had appointed to give Trump gift after gift in rulings so ridiculous even right-wing pundits seemed shocked. It would be the same Cannon whose actions in this case were absolutely shredded in a ruling from the 11th Circuit that tossed out everything she had done, except the two months of stalling she achieved for Trump.
Now Cannon gets a chance to show her gratitude to Trump again with an appointment that seems like a cruel joke on the nation.
There are 18 judges in the South Florida Federal District Court. Eighteen. Stick a hand in a fishbowl and the odds of pulling out Cannon’s name should be less than 6%.

The Rats Are Leaving the Sinking Ship
Donald Trump will have new attorneys representing him when he appears in court next week in Miami to be arraigned on federal charges.
Attorneys Jim Trusty and John Rowley resigned from his team, they said in a statement Friday. Todd Blanche, who had resigned from an elite law firm to represent him on New York fraud charges, will appear in court with Trump along with attorney Chris Kise and a third lawyer who has not yet been added to the case, the ex-president announced on Truth Social.

Norway? No Way!
Smoke from Canadian wildfires has been detected thousands of kilometers away in Norway this week, the Scandinavian country's Climate and Environmental Research Institute NILU said on Friday.
"Very weak" concentrations of smoke particles have been detected since Monday, in particular at the Birkenes observatory in southern Norway, researcher Nikolaos Evangeliou told AFP.
Measurements have varied depending on the fires' intensity, wind direction and precipitation.
"We don't see serious peaks or large increases... so we don't see any environmental issue (in Norway) nor serious health hazards either," he added.

Some Folkis Will Have to Learn to Spell and Pronouce "Zaporizhzhia".Ukraine's military has launched attacks on occupying Russian forces in the key southern Zaporizhzhia region, Russian officials and military bloggers say. They say Ukrainian troops - backed by tanks, artillery and drones - are trying to advance south of the town of Orikhiv for the second night running. A senior Ukrainian defence official said the enemy was in "active defence". Several military experts have said the focus of Ukraine's long awaited counter-offensive will be Zaporizhzhia. They argue Kyiv is trying to regain access to the Sea of Azov, splitting the occupying Russian forces in the region into two detached groupings. That would not only weaken Russia's combat capability but also eliminate a land bridge to Crimea, the southern peninsula illegally annexed by Russia in 2014.

Wasn't BREXIT Supposed to Stop Immigration?Net migration to the United Kingdom has hit a record at a time when the government is heavily focused on bringing the number of arrivals down. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported last month that 606,000 people arrived in 2022, representing a 24 percent increase on the year before. In 2015, the year before the Brexit referendum, net migration stood at about 330,000. Jay Lindop, director of the Centre for International Migration at the ONS, said the main drivers for last year’s increase were people coming to the UK from non-EU countries for work, study and humanitarian purposes, including those arriving from Ukraine and Hong Kong. The latest figures sparked tensions within the ruling Conservative Party. Many right-wing politicians complained that their leader, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, is failing to control borders. ‘Europeans are almost not coming to the UK any more’

At Least they Seem to Be Adopting a Standard Connector
Electric vehicles made by General Motors will be able to use much of Tesla’s extensive charging network beginning early next year.
In addition, GM will adopt Tesla’s connector, the plug that links an electric vehicle to a charging station.
GM joins Ford in shifting its electric vehicles to work with about 12,000 of Tesla’s roughly 17,000 chargers, and both Detroit automakers are pushing to make Tesla’s connector the industry standard. GM CEO Mary Barra and her Tesla counterpart, Elon Musk, made the announcement Thursday during a Twitter Spaces conversation.
Their discussion comes two weeks after Ford CEO Jim Farley joined Musk to announce that Ford’s electric vehicles would gain access to much of Tesla’s EV-charging network, the largest in the nation. Farley also said Ford would switch to Tesla’s connector rather than go with the connector used by the rest of the industry.
Before the opening bell Friday, shares of Tesla Inc. jumped 6% and appeared headed for a new high for the year. General Motors Co. rose 4%, and Ford Motor Co. rose more than 1%.
At first, GM and Ford EV owners will need an adapter to hook into the Tesla stations, which have their own connector. But both GM and Ford will switch to Tesla’s North American Charging Standard connector starting with new EVs produced in 2025.
Tesla has about 17,000 Supercharger stations in the U.S. There are about 54,000 public charging stations in the U.S., according to the Department of Energy, but many charge much more slowly than the Tesla stations.

Florida farmer: "My Mexicans are great, the others ones suck"One of these good old boys, a sweet potato farmer named Smith, had this to say after trying to run his operation with Anglos. “I’ve probably had three or four [citizens] out of 50 that is really worth anything as far as being a good worker. It’s just a lot of it is, is they’re not skilled and they don’t know how to do what we’re doing. And they’re not durable enough. They come out, work two or three hours, and “Whew, I’ve had it and I can’t take this anymore.”

Newsome Owns McCarthy
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) fired back at House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) after the GOP leader criticized his proposal for a constitutional 28th Amendment to address gun violence.
McCarthy ripped Newsom’s suggestion for raising the minimum age for gun buyers to 21, universal background checks, a “reasonable waiting period” for gun purchases and a ban on civilians buying assault weapons.
“Hey Governor Newsom, The 2nd Amendment already exists — we don’t need a 28th,” McCarthy wrote on Twitter. “But what we do need is for Presidential aspirants to stop pushing their extreme positions nationally.”
Newsom, in response to McCarthy’s criticism, slammed the House speaker for “doing nothing to address” crime in his hometown of Bakersfield, California.
“Hey Kevin, What we need is you to own up to the fact that you represent a district with the highest murder rate in our state ― and you’re doing nothing to address it,” wrote Newsom.
Bakersfield’s 2021 murder rate is more than double that of cities like New York and San Francisco, The Daily Beast reported.

Shame!
Alina Habba, an attorney for Donald Trump, on Thursday declared she was “ashamed to be a lawyer” following the indictment of the former president for mishandling top-secret documents after leaving the White House.
Habba, talking to Fox News’ Jesse Watters, suggested the indictment was nothing more than an attempt to distract voters from President Joe Biden.
“What they do is they say, ‘Oh, look at this shiny ball, Jesse. Look at the shiny ball. Let’s go after Trump. Whatever you hear about the Bidens, don’t worry about it. Trump, Trump, Trump.’ It’s called Trump derangement syndrome and now it’s becoming so sick,” she claimed.
Then Habba added:
“I’m embarrassed to be a lawyer at this moment, honestly. I am ashamed. I’m ashamed to be a lawyer.”

Turkey Brought This On ThemselvesTurkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan won reelection last month despite a battered economy and a cost-of-living crisis that experts say are exacerbated by his unconventional economic policies. The longtime leader appointed an internationally respected former banker as finance and treasury minister and on Friday named a former co-CEO of a U.S.-based bank as head of the central bank. But lingering uncertainty over Erdogan’s economic direction and an apparent move to loosen government controls of foreign currency exchanges have led Turkey's currency to plunge to record lows against the U.S. dollar this week. The Turkish lira has now weakened by around 20% against the dollar since the start of the year. It has raised fears of even higher prices for people already struggling to afford basics like housing and food amid high inflation. “I am anxious. I am unhappy. Soon my income won’t pay the rent,” said Sureyya Usta, a 63-year-old who lives in Ankara. Here’s a look at the falling value of the lira, what lies ahead for the economy and how people have been affected: Why Turkey's currency is crashing after Erdogan got reelected

Etnropy is Always Increasing and Morals Are Always Declining. One of These is a Law of Thermodynamics.Do you feel like society's morals have declined recently?. This illusion of moral decline may have "troubling consequences," the researchers warned. Do you feel like society's morals have declined recently? You are far from alone, and may be suffering from a "psychological illusion," according to new research on Wednesday. At every point over the last 70 years, people across the world have continuously believed that morality is declining, US psychologists found by looking at historical surveys. But rather than morals steadily falling throughout history, the researchers suggested this perception is an illusion caused by rose-tinted memories of the past and a focus on the grim news of the present. In a study in the journal Nature, the researchers quoted an observer as saying that "the process of our moral decline" has led to "the dark dawning of our modern day". They then revealed that this is a quote from the Roman historian Livy written more than 2,000 years ago. "This feeling is always there, you can find quotes from any era of history where people are decrying the decline of people's interpersonal goodness," Adam Mastroianni, a researcher at New York's Columbia University and the study's lead author, told AFP. Think morals are declining? So has everyone, ever, study says
