These are things people actually said in court.
============================================
ATTORNEY: Is your appearance here this morning pursuant to a deposition notice which I sent to your attorney?
WITNESS: No, this is how I dress when I go to work.
My Take: The Dumbest Thing I have Heard on the Debt Ceiling Deal: "If Biden Had Come to the Table Earlier, He Could Have Had This Deal With Less Drama."
By looking like he would only accpet a clean deal, he put more pressure on McCarthy to accept less. By waiting he also increased the pressure. Any good negotiator knows that you don't want to look eager to deal.
Second Dumbest Take: "McCarthy Forced Biden to the Table by Passing a Debt Ceiling Bill with All Those Far Right Dreams"
Biden came to the table when he wanted to. The House Bill never went anywhere.
My Take: Biden Ate McCarthy's Lunch in These Negotiations.

The Easiest Prediction Ever: Previous Guy Will Condemn the Debt Ceiling Deal
He's the only one who can put together a good deal. Every deal he didn't make is terrible.

Fox Noise Goes Full McCarthy (Joe, not Kevin). They Wreck a Family's Life With Lies.
This past fall, a police report in Foster County, North Dakota claimed that a 42-year-old man named Shannon Brandt had run over 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson after he allegedly accused the teen of being part of a "Republican extremist group."
The case drew outrage among right-wing media personalities, many of whom linked Ellingson's killing to President Joe Biden's speeches slamming "MAGA Republicans" as an inspiration.
But as the New York Times reports, this narrative around the murder has largely turned out to be untrue, as police subsequently determined that Brandt's actions were not politically motivated.
What's more, the Foster County prosecutor who brought charges against Brandt never mentioned anything about Ellingson being targeted for violence due to his political beliefs.

Nonetheless, the national attention from Fox News created a firestorm in McHenry, North Dakota, a tiny town of just 64 residents.
Or as Ashley Brandt-Duda, Brandt's sister, told the Times, "everything just exploded" thanks to Fox News' sensationalizing of the story.
"Ms. Brandt-Duda said her parents left their home in McHenry out of concern for their safety. When they returned about a week later, they found more than 50 threatening messages on their answering machine," reports the Times. "The county court and sheriff’s offices also received numerous threats, according to multiple local officials."
The report concludes by noting that coverage of Ellingson's murder almost completely died on Fox News once it was determined to have not been political -- but no prime time hosts ever acknowledged that this was the case.

Great News for Biden and McCarthy! The Deal is Being Criticized on the Left
Progressive economists and advocates warned that the tentative debt ceiling agreement reached Saturday by the White House and Republican leaders would needlessly gash nutrition aid, rental assistance, education programs, and more—all while making it easier for the wealthy to avoid taxes.

Let's Talk Turkey
You can spot Turkey's global strategic significance - which has starkly increased against the backdrop of the Ukraine war - by the A-list potpourri of world leaders who rushed to congratulate Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his election win on Sunday night.
First out of the box was Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He was so keen to stroke the ego of his Turkish counterpart and fellow "strongman" leader that he didn't even wait for the official results of the vote before singling out Mr Erdogan's "independent foreign policy" as a reason for his victory.
We can safely assume the Turkish policy that Russia is particularly fond of is Mr Erdogan's refusal to ostracise the Kremlin after its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, even as Turkey's allies in Nato imposed sanctions and slashed their energy reliance on Russia.
Trade between Turkey and Russia even increased significantly since the start of the war in Ukraine.
But also hot on Mr Putin's congratulatory heels on Sunday were US President Joe Biden and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.
Despite their dislike of Mr Erdogan's cosying up to the Kremlin and his slashing of free speech and democratic norms at home during his first two decades in power, to them Turkey is a crucial - if difficult and unpredictable - ally of the West.
Turkey is a key member of the Nato military alliance, taking part in all its missions.
Mr Erdogan may maintain close ties with Russia - but he also provides military aid to Ukraine.
He famously brokered a deal whereby Russia ended a blockade on Ukraine grain supplies, allowing them to flow to parts of the world that rely on them. He also - after long hesitation - gave his official approval to Russia's neighbour Finland joining Nato.
Once a passionate advocate of Turkey joining the EU, Mr Erdogan these days speaks of "making Turkey great again".

What Will the Pistol-Packin’ Mama Do?
All eyes on Sen. Angela Paxton as Texas Senate takes up her husband’s removal
Ken Paxton helped elect his wife, Angela, to the state Senate. That chamber will now consider whether to remove him from the attorney general’s office. She has not said whether she will recuse herself.
On the campaign trail, she’s known for performing a version of an Al Dexter song, singing, “I’m a pistol-packin’ mama, and my husband sues Obama, I’m a pistol-packin’ mama, yes I am.”
Now that pistol-packin’ mama is one of 31 senators who hold her husband’s fate in their hands. It’s unclear what her role should or would be in the trial; while the Texas Constitution says legislators should recuse themselves from matters in which they have a personal stake, it also says all senators shall be present for an impeachment trial.
Angela Paxton did not respond to a request for comment. All eyes are now on her, to see how she handles this awkward moment with her colleagues.
How Does She Feel About His Mistress?

A Chicken in Every Pot. A Nuke in Every Garage.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, a close ally of President Vladimir Putin, promised nuclear weapons to any nation that joined Russia and Belarus.
The comment came just days after the Belarusian leader confirmed the transfer of Russian nuclear weapons to his country. Putin has periodically hinted at a nuclear escalation since the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, dramatically increasing tensions with the United States and the West.
“It’s very simple. You have to join the union between Belarus and Russia, and that’s it: there will be nuclear weapons for everyone,” Lukashenko said in a comment aired Sunday night on Russian state TV.
“I think it’s possible,” Lukashenko added, saying that he was expressing his own view. “We need to strategically understand that we have a unique chance to unite.”
I Guess Putin Couldn't Poison Lindsay Graham, So He Picked Somebody Closer
Following a closed-door meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Lukashenko was swiftly transported to a Moscow hospital in critical condition.
“Blood purification procedures have been conducted, and Lukashenko’s condition has been deemed non-transportable. The orchestrated efforts to save the Belarusian dictator aimed to dispel speculations regarding Kremlin’s alleged involvement in his poisoning,” Tsepkalo wrote on Twitter.

Maybe Those People Still Wearing Masks Have the Right Idea
The past winter was a heavy one for respiratory viruses, dominated by surges of RSV, influenza and Covid-19. But just as it was winding down, a little-known virus that causes many of the same symptoms – a lower lung infection, hacking cough, runny nose, sore throat and fever – was just picking up steam.
Cases of human metapneumovirus, or HMPV, spiked this spring, according to US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s respiratory virus surveillance systems. It filled hospital intensive care units with young children and seniors who are the most vulnerable to these infections. At its peak in mid-March, nearly 11% of tested specimens were positive for HMPV, a number that’s about 36% higher than the average, pre-pandemic seasonal peak of 7% test positivity.
Most people who caught it probably didn’t even know they had it, however. Sick people aren’t usually tested for it outside of a hospital or ER. Unlike Covid-19 and the flu, there’s no vaccine for HMPV or antiviral drugs to treat it. Instead, doctors care for seriously ill people by tending to their symptoms.
Studies show that HMPV causes as much misery in the US each year as the flu and a closely related virus, RSV. One study of patient samples collected over 25 years found that it was the second most common cause of respiratory infections in kids behind RSV. A study in New York conducted over four winters found that it was as common in hospitalized seniors as RSV and the flu. Like those infections, HMPV can lead to intensive care and fatal cases of pneumonia in older adults.

Fox's Finest
JONES: “Parents at a New York City public school say it’s overcrowded with migrants and can no longer provide proper programs, as a third grader writes a letter to her superintendent, and we have a quote here. ‘Dear Superintendent Samuels, I’m a third grader at Public School 145 and I love my school. I have been there since pre-K. This year, we lost our library, music room, and STEAM room, and I’m happy that we have a lot of new kids, but it’s not okay that we don’t have enough space. Please work with our school to help us get more space this year.’ And that’s exactly what I’d expect from an 8-year-old. No hate in their heart whatsoever, but they’re pointing to a problem, which is, ‘hey, if you’re going to invite a whole lot more people here, we got to have somewhere to have school.’”
CAMPOS-DUFFY: “Yeah, I’m still trying to get over the fact that they have a steam room. Did I read that right? [Laughs]. Wow, schools change. [laughs] Maybe we did give them too much COVID money. [Laughs].”
A STEAM room (note the capitalization) isn’t a sauna. It refers to science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) programs
Campos-Duffy, who made her name by living with a bunch of other people her age and having film crews follow them around as they waxed rhapsodic about the piece of pizza they ate over the sink last night while drunk, eventually parlayed her fame into a spot on one of Fox’s top un-reality shows.
