These are things people actually said in court. ============================================ ATTORNEY: This myasthenia gravis, does it affect your memory at all? WITNESS: Yes. ATTORNEY: And in what ways does it affect your memory? WITNESS: I forget. ATTORNEY: You forget? Can you give us an example of something you forgot?
Losing Weight Isn't Just Losing Fat
Weight loss drugs have soared in popularity in the past year, helping some lose dramatic amounts of weight — but not all that weight is fat.
Some of that is actually lean mass, which is everything in the body that isn’t fat, including your bones, organs and, importantly, muscle.
“When we look at weight reduction from any intervention, about one-third of the weight we lose tends to be lean mass, and that can be problematic,” said Dr. Jaime Almandoz, an associate professor of internal medicine in the Division of Endocrinology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. That lean mass loss is generally from muscle. “Lean mass is healthier and associated with better metabolism, so when we lose lean mass, we may lose some of that function.”
The more muscle mass a person has, the better the resting metabolic rate, or the number of calories a person burns at rest. When a person loses muscle mass, the resting metabolic rate decreases, too.
“If you can maintain your muscle mass, you could have more sustained weight loss because your metabolic rate would not be reduced,” said Dr. Louis Aronne, director of the Comprehensive Weight Control Center at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York.
Two drugs in particular have taken off for weight loss: semaglutide and tirzepatide. Semaglutide is the drug found in Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic and Wegovy; tirzepatide is the drug in Eli Lilly’s Mounjaro. The medications work in slightly different ways, but both suppress appetite, causing people to consume fewer calories.
Losing weight has complex effects on the body, especially during the initial phases. The more weight a person loses during a short period of time, the more muscle mass they’ll lose in addition to fat, Almandoz said.

This isn't All. There is Already a Nationwide Shortage of Nurses. Will It Be Worse in Red States? In survey results that should surprise exactly no one, most third and fourth-year medical students planning to practice in obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYNs) as well as prospective surgeons and specialists in internal medicine say they do not plan to practice in states that have banned or restricted abortion. As reported by Erika Edwards for NBC News, the survey of 494 medical students in 32 states was conducted by third-year medical student Ariana Traub, currently attending Emory University’s School of Medicine. 57.9% of respondents “were unlikely or very unlikely to apply to a single residency program in a state with abortion restrictions,” while over 76% said that access to abortion care would influence their decision on where they would pursue their residencies. As Edwards reports: The reluctance to be a medical resident — young doctors who train in hospitals or clinics after graduating medical school — in states with abortion bans could further strain health care shortages in many parts of the country. They Can Always Call These GuysWould Anybody Want to Be This Woman's Doctor? On March 3, 2023, Deborah Dorbert gave birth to a 4 lb, 12 oz baby boy. Deborah and her husband had known for 4 months that Baby Milo had Potter Syndrome — he would be born with no kidneys and underdeveloped lungs. But because they had learned about Milo’s condition too late to allow a legal abortion in Florida, and because Milo’s heart continued to beat, they were forced to wait until the baby was born and then watch him die. He never cried or tried to nurse or even opened his eyes, investing every ounce of energy in intermittent gasps for air. Deborah’s doctors had told her that Milo would only live between 20 minutes and 2 hrs. He lived for 99 minutes while his parents and grandparents watched helplessly. Now, he was haunted by the sound of Milo gasping for air and the sight of his body struggling to ward off a death that had been inevitable for three long months. “To me it’s just pure torture,” Rogell said. “The law has created torture.”

Another QOP Hoax
Several homeless men in Orange County, New York, told local news outlets that they were paid to pose as homeless veterans who were removed from an area hotel to make way for migrants who’d crossed the southern U.S. border and were first bused to New York City.
The story had received manic coverage from right-wing news media after the New York Post published an “exclusive” last Friday. Fox News ran pieces about Republican outrage on its website and live on air, where pundits suggested that the story was proof President Joe Biden did not care about America’s veterans. Fox host Laura Ingraham ran a chyron on her show reading “New York City Puts Illegals Ahead of Veterans.”
Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley tweeted, “Liberal insanity at work.” Donald Trump Jr. wrote, “Fuck Democrats & their bullshit policies!”
New York State Assemblyman Brian Maher (R) appeared on Fox News to call the supposed move “a total embarrassment.”
Maher was the first to draw attention to the supposed incident because he was already familiar with a small charity based in Orange County, the Yerik Israel Toney Foundation, and its founder, Sharon Toney-Finch, who originally tipped the assemblyman off. He told the Mid Hudson News that he took Toney-Finch at her word and had no idea the whole thing was an apparent scam until speaking with her Thursday, when she reportedly admitted to deceiving him.
They Even Scammed the Men they Hired for the Scam
The men reportedly said they were promised $200, then taken to a diner and told they could order whatever they liked.
“We ate like kings,” one of the men told Mid Hudson News.
They were then reportedly brought to speak with local officials, and Toney-Finch urged one or two of the group to go on record with the false claim about being removed from the hotel.
The men told the Times-Union that they became alarmed when they never received payment.

They Don't Know What It Is, But They Don't Like It.
There’s still no deal in place for Congress and the White House to avoid a catastrophic default on the nation’s debt. But even as talks continued going into the weekend, one thing was already clear: A lot of Republicans and Democrats don’t like the deal, whatever it is.
On the right, the House Freedom Caucus has called for an end to negotiations over the debt ceiling entirely, saying “there should be no further discussion” until the Senate acts on a House bill that would raise the borrowing limit while sharply cutting federal spending. On the left, a growing coalition of Senate Democrats are calling for Biden to prepare to invoke the 14th Amendment, pushing for a unilateral — but potentially risky — move that would sidestep the close circle of negotiators trying to hammer out a compromise. House Democrats are trying their own long-shot bid to raise the debt ceiling without spending cuts, circulating a petition that could force a vote.

Let's Round Up a Posse and Go After Those Varmints.
A new Texas bill could soon establish a taskforce using civilians that would have the authority to “arrest, apprehend or detain persons crossing the Texas-Mexico border unlawfully”, raising concerns around state-sponsored vigilantism.
House Bill 20, authored by Republican state representative Matt Schaefer, seeks to create a new “border protection unit” that would deter migrants from unlawfully entering Texas using non-deadly force. It could include civilians with prior military experience among its members – such as national guards or former border patrol agents – who would be granted some immunity from prosecution for actions they carried out as members of the force.
Trained Police Officers Use Excessive Force All the Time.

Another Way to Lose at Sports Betting
A Wisconsin man has been charged in a plot to hack and steal from thousands of sports betting accounts, court documents show.
Joseph Garrison, 18, and others allegedly stole roughly $600,000 from 1,600 accounts on an unnamed sports betting site. (DraftKings) Garrison surrendered to authorities in New York on Thursday and faces six charges including unauthorized access to computers and wire fraud, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York announced.
If convicted of all the charges against him, Garrison could be sentenced to up to 57 years in prison.
Prosecutors alleged that Garrison and others used credential stuffing attacks, which entail using stolen usernames and passwords from previous data breaches, to access accounts on other platforms. According to the criminal complaint against Garrison, hackers accessed roughly 60,000 accounts on the sports betting website.

Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy. I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy.
During a Senate appropriations subcommittee hearing partly focused on the DEA budget, Republican Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana said, “Without the people of America, Mexico, figuratively speaking, would be eating cat food out of a can and living in a tent behind an Outback.” This was tied to Kennedy’s suggestion that the United States invade Mexico to destroy drug cartels.
His statement was received with robust condemnation from all over the Americas: Mexico’s foreign affairs secretary called Kennedy “a profoundly ignorant man;” Mexico’s ambassador to the U.S., Esteban Moctezuma, released a video in which he reads the letter he sent to Kennedy, seeking to “enlighten” the Senator on the mutually beneficial relationship between the United States and Mexico. Specifically, the tens of billions of dollars in trade Louisiana has in surplus from Mexico, and the approximately tens of thousands of people it employs.
I don't think that people of Louisiana field represented by the vulgar and racist words you used you are obliged to offer an apology to your citizens because what you asserted is not worthy of the state of Louisiana known for being a cultural Melting Pot giving the moral standards expressing your unfortunate statement.
