What Happened in Previous Guy's Deoposition. It's Even Wierder Than You Might Guess.
Trump confused Carroll for second wife Marla Maples in a party photograph.
One of Trump’s main defenses has been saying that he would not have raped Carroll because she was not his “type.” He doubled down on the argument in his deposition.
“The only difference between me and other people is I’m honest,” he told Carroll’s attorney Roberta Kaplan.
Trump was then shown a black-and-white photograph from a late 1980s event showing himself and Maples speaking with Carroll and her then-husband John Johnson, an NBC news anchor. He confused the two women.
“The person you just pointed to is Carroll,” Kaplan told him, pointing out Maples nearby.
She asked: “I take it the three women you’ve married are all your type.”
“Yeah,” Trump replied.
Trump defended his infamous “grab ’em by the pussy” comments.
Kaplan played the 2004 “Access Hollywood” tape for Trump where he infamously says, “When you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.”
“Well, historically, that’s true with stars,” Trump told Kaplan afterward.
“It’s true with stars that they can grab women by the pussy?” she asked.
“Well, that’s — if you look over the last million years, I guess that’s been largely true. Not always, but largely true,” Trump said.
“Unfortunately or fortunately,” he added.
He claimed he could not remember whether he dated Maples while still married to first wife, Ivana.
Kaplan asked Trump to affirm that he dated women outside of his marriages and official relationships, given that part of Carroll’s story is that Trump told her he was at the store to pick out a gift for an unspecified female friend.
Kaplan asked if he saw Maples while still married to his first wife, Ivana Trump.
“It could be a lapover, but I don’t really know,” Trump said.
His failing marriage and relationship with Maples was thoroughly chronicled in tabloids at the time; a 1990 feature in Vanity Fair reported that Trump had “moved [Maples] onto his luxe yacht” in the summer of 1989. Trump’s divorce from Ivana was finalized in 1991.
He told Carroll’s lawyer that she was not his type, either.
Trump appeared to grow frustrated with Kaplan as she pressed him with questions about some of the other women who have accused him of sexual assault.
He responded with comments on the women’s appearances before shifting focus to the woman in front of him.
“You wouldn’t be a choice of mine either, to be honest with you. I hope you’re not insulted,” Trump told Kaplan. “I would not under any circumstances have any interest in you. I’m honest when I say it.”
And suggested that Carroll enjoyed being sexually assaulted.
Trump brought up an interview Carroll gave to CNN’s Anderson Cooper in 2019, shortly after coming forward with her rape accusation. At one point, she argued that people tend to think of rape “as being sexy” due to sexual “fantasies,” but said that her experience was simply very painful.
“She actually indicated that she loved it,” Trump told Kaplan. “In fact, I think she said it was sexy, didn’t she?”
Kaplan replied, “Sir, I just want to confirm: It’s your testimony that E. Jean Carroll said that she loved being sexually assaulted by you?”
“Well, based on her interview with Anderson Cooper, I believe that’s what took place. ... I think she said that rape is sexy, which it’s not, by the way,” Trump said.
Asked whether he knew Carroll had been speaking about other people’s views, Trump told Kaplan she would have to watch the interview to see for herself.
He Didn't Do it, But She Loved It.

You Don't Give Immunity, Unless The Witness has Something Substantial to Tell.
The prosecutor investigating interference in the 2020 election in Georgia has agreed to immunity deals with at least eight Republican fake electors who signed a certificate falsely stating that then-President Donald Trump had won the state.
Defense attorney Kimberly Debrow revealed the existence of the immunity deals in a court filing Friday, saying her eight clients had accepted the agreements last month. The filing does not identify the eight people who were offered immunity deals.
Last July, a lawyer for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ office revealed that each of the 16 people who signed the false elector certificate was a target of her investigation, which is examining whether Trump and his allies committed any crimes while trying to overturn his narrow election loss.
The 16 fake electors met at the state Capitol on Dec. 14, 2020, and signed a certificate declaring falsely that Trump had won the presidential election and declaring themselves the state’s “duly elected and qualified” electors.
The news of the immunity deals shows that Willis continues to work on her case as she prepares to make decisions on whether to seek charges this summer. In letters sent to law enforcement agencies late last month, she advised them to prepare adequate security as she intends to announce her charging decisions between mid-July and early September.

Are There Russian Partisans?
The car of a prominent pro-Kremlin novelist exploded in Russia on Saturday, injuring him and killing his driver, Russia's state news agency Tass reported, citing emergency and law enforcement officials.
The incident involving the car of Zakhar Prilepin, a well-known nationalist writer and an ardent supporter of what the Kremlin calls a “special military operation” in Ukraine, took place in the region of Nizhny Novgorod, about 400 kilometers (250 miles) east of Moscow.
It is the third explosion involving prominent pro-Kremlin figures since the start of the war in Ukraine.
In August 2022, a car bombing on the outskirts of Moscow killed Daria Dugina, the daughter of an influential Russian political theorist often referred to as "Putin's brain.” The authorities alleged that Ukraine was behind the blast.
Last month, an explosion in a cafe in St. Petersburg killed a popular military blogger, Vladlen Tatarsky. Officials once again blamed Ukrainian intelligence agencies for orchestrating it.

Patriot Swings Into Action
Ukraine's air force claimed Saturday to have downed a Russian hypersonic missile over Kyiv using newly acquired American Patriot defense systems, the first known time the country has been able to intercept one of Moscow's most modern missiles.
Air Force commander Mykola Oleshchuk said in a Telegram post that the Kinzhal-type ballistic missile had been intercepted in an overnight attack on the Ukrainian capital earlier in the week. It was also the first time Ukraine is known to have used the Patriot defense systems.

Key Word is "Yet".
President Joe Biden said on Friday he was not yet ready to invoke the 14th Amendment to avoid the United States defaulting on its debts as early as June 1, comments which for the first time suggested he has not ruled out the option.
"I've not gotten there yet," Biden said in an interview with MSNBC when asked about the possibility of invoking the amendment.

How Much Clean Air Does $4 Billion Get Us?
The Biden administration on Friday launched a $4 billion effort to electrify U.S. ports and cut heavy duty truck emissions as the government looks to address disproportionate impacts on nearby communities.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said it was seeking input in its $3 billion Clean Ports Program to reduce pollutants at U.S. ports and its $1 billion Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicle Program to reduce vehicle emissions near ports and other truck routes. EPA wants details about the availability, market price, and performance of zero-emission trucks, zero-emission port equipment, electric charging and other infrastructure needs for zero-emission technologies.
White House National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi said the program is addressing "pernicious pollution pumping through our port communities by making investments and setting standards that will spur a shift away from dirty diesel to clean, American-made technologies."

Why Isn't the IRS After the NRA? IDK.
The NRA enjoys a tax status reserved for groups operating in the public interest. As of May 1, more than 13,900 people have been killed by gun violence in the U.S. It should be clear that the NRA is definitely not working toward the betterment of the nation. Moreover, the organization has been repeatedly caught using funds for the personal benefit of its officials or for actions significantly outside their stated missions—actions that are prohibited for tax-exempt organizations.
A Senate investigation revealed the NRA's collaboration with Russians to influence American elections, with NRA resources being utilized to gain political favors for two Russian individuals. The organization was also accused of misusing its tax-exempt status by funneling millions of dollars to top executives and vendors, yet the IRS never conducted an investigation. It doesn't end there. Giffords, an advocacy organization led by gun violence survivor and former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, further outlines the NRA's astonishing array of potentially illegal activities since 2019.
Tax-exempt organizations play an important role in improving the lives of millions of Americans. To maintain integrity and trust, instances of abuse must be investigated and acted upon. No organization that wantonly and repeatedly abuses their tax status should be allowed to continue enjoying privileged tax-exempt status.
The NRA’s internal financial dealings and the organization's violations of federal laws governing charities are violations. If the NRA is violating the law, then the IRS must revoke its tax-exempt status immediately.
