Dear Abby,
You told some woman whose husband had lost all interest in sex to send him to a doctor. Well, my husband lost all interest in sex and he is a doctor. Now what do I do?
Breaking News: MLK Was Against WHITE Racism
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, a sanitized version of King was part of a conservative political strategy for swaying white moderates to support President Ronald Reagan’s reelection by making King’s birthday a national holiday.
Even after Reagan finally signed the King holiday into law in 1983, he would write letters of assurance to angry political allies that only a selective version of King would be commemorated.
That version was free of not only the racial politics that shaped the civil rights movement but also of the vision of systemic change that King envisioned. In addition, Reagan’s version left out the views that King held against the Vietnam War.
Instead, the GOP’s sanitized version only comprises King’s vision of a colorblind society – at the expense of the deep, systemic change that King believed was needed to achieve a society in which character was more important than race.

I've Got a Secret. Lots of Them.
Secrecy has a power all its own. It enables executive branch officials to classify and thereby conceal not just dangerous information that could threaten national security but also many things they simply prefer to hide from the public — that could include elite cynicism, managerial incompetence or military insubordination. This national secrecy complex would best be described as a dark state — much of it hidden from us, even decades after the fact, and used to cover up too many shameful things in our history, including illegal surveillance, radioactive experimentation on children and the elderly, and a whole series of undeclared wars.
Even Richard Nixon agreed on the need to “lift the veil of secrecy which now enshrouds altogether too many papers written by employees of the federal establishment.” But the executive order he issued was really intended to consolidate control of this apparatus within the White House, by reducing the number of people allowed to create new secrets, limiting the number classified at the highest levels and “automatically” declassifying the secrets produced by previous administrations. But Mr. Nixon all but gave up on trying to control runaway inflation in official secrecy and struggled to come up with some new term to distinguish the president’s own secrets. “Don’t use ‘top secret’ for me ever again,” he told John Ehrlichman. “I never want to see ‘top secret’ in this [expletive] office.”
Even the presidents credited with truly trying to reform the system — Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama — presided over tremendous growth in the number of new secrets created each year. Seeking a new way to categorize the most sensitive information, like Mr. Nixon before him, Mr. Carter tried a new designation: “royal.”

Isn't It About Time George Santos Released His Birth Certificate?
Serial liar and freshman House Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) has been captured on video apparently even being shady about his name. The 2019 clip shows Santos in an audience addressing a panel at a New York City event encouraging members of the LGBTQ community to quit the Democratic Party. “My name is Anthony Devolder,” he introduces himself in the video posted on Twitter. “I’m a New York City resident. I’ve recently founded a group called United for Trump, so if you guys want to follow, that would be awesome,” he adds. The introduction came just months before he first ran for Congress (and lost) using the name George Santos, The New York Times reports. In July 2020, a small Florida-based investment firm announced that a man named George Devolder had been hired as its New York regional director. “When we had the opportunity to welcome him to our team, I was delighted,” the company’s founder and chief executive said in a news release. “He’s a perfect fit.” Devolder is now better known as George Santos, the 34-year-old freshman Republican congressman from New York’s 3rd Congressional District who brazenly lied to voters about key details of his biography. And the company for which he was “a perfect fit,” Harbor City Capital, is no longer in operation. Its assets were frozen in 2021, when the Securities and Exchange Commission accused it of running a “classic Ponzi scheme” that had defrauded investors of millions of dollars. The SEC complaint did not name Santos, who has denied knowledge of the alleged wrongdoing. Court records, company documents and previously unreported footage of workplace Zoom meetings obtained by The Washington Post, as well as interviews with former Harbor City employees and investors, reveal how the firm nurtured Santos’s ambitions and acquainted him with business associates who have gone on to play notable roles in his scandal-plagued political career. When the company was shuttered in 2021, after allegedly collecting a total of $17.1 million from more than 100 individuals, Santos joined Harbor City executives in creating other businesses and political consultancies now under scrutiny after his election to Congress, according to business registration documents. Harbor City called George Santos a ‘perfect fit.’ The SEC called the company a fraud.

I Know It's Possible to Tune These Things Out, But This Should Not Be Normal
The death toll from a Russian missile strike in the southeastern city of Dnipro rose to 29 on Sunday as first responders picked through the rubble of an apartment building looking for survivors and bodies.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at least 73 people were injured Saturday when the explosions smashed through all nine floors of the building that housed an estimated 1,700 people.
Russia's Best and Brightest?
Russian troops called to fight in Ukraine were killed in an explosion caused by the "careless handling" of ammunition, according to Russian state media.
Military experts say the invasion exposed several flaws among Putin's troops, including an inability to maintain well-trained, motivated ones. These weaknesses, coupled with Kyiv's stronger-than-expected defense effort that has been bolstered by Western military aid, has allowed Ukraine to retake thousands of square miles of formerly occupied territory, blunting Putin's military gains.
In the latest blow to Putin's military, at least three servicemen were killed during an explosion at the Tonenkoe farm in Russia's Belgorod region, according to a report from Russian state media TASS on Sunday.
Russian officials publicly revealed few details about the incident, but early investigations pointed to troops' mishandling of ammunition as the cause of the explosion. In addition to the soldiers killed, at least 15 others suffered injuries of an unknown extent.
"The preliminary cause of the explosion is careless handling of ammunition," an emergency services representative told TASS.

Texas Tales
One person was killed and four others were wounded when a carload of armed assailants unleashed a barrage of more than 50 shots early Sunday morning on patrons outside a suburban Houston nightclub, police said.
Investigators are searching for witnesses and asking nearby businesses for surveillance video in what police described as a "scary" drive-by shooting involving multiple gunmen.
No arrests have been announced. ......... A Texas man allegedly admitted to authorities that he murdered and mutilated his wife, according to a news release published by the Waller County Sheriff's Office.
Jared James Dicus was arrested and charged with first degree murder on Wednesday, according to online court records.
The Waller County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about a possible death at a southeast Texas home about an hour away from Houston around 4:35 p.m. Wednesday.
Deputies found the body of a woman in a "small residential structure" located behind the home. The body had been mutilated, according to the sheriff's office. NBC affiliate KPRC 2 reported that portions of her body had been dismembered and the home was covered in blood.
The victim was identified by Waller County Judge Trey Duhon and her family as 21-year-old Anggy Diaz.
Dicus, the husband of the deceased woman, was detained on scene and later allegedly confessed to authorities that he had murdered his wife.
