Save the Earth! It's the only planet with chocolate.
My View on the Queen and the Royals May Not Be Popular
I am sad to hear that she died, just as any celebrity death makes me sad.
But I don't think it's a big deal. They are a rich, famous family, but they are basically irrelevant to anything important going on in the world. They are the British Kardashians.
The royals are not special people. They are a symbol of a rigid, racist British class system and brutal colonialism.
The UK will waste millions of pounds on a funeral and coronation that will be nothing but dumb spectacle.
Bah! Humbug! Get off my lawn.

Ukraine on the March
Ukraine claims to have retaken more than 1,000 sq km (385 sq miles) of territory in its south and east from Russia in the last week.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said the area had been "liberated" as part of a counter-offensive since 1 September.
More than 20 villages in the Kharkiv region have also been recaptured, another general claims.
Russian forces have disputed some of the advances, which if confirmed would mark a significant victory for Ukraine.
Kyiv has liberated "dozens of settlements" near the north-eastern Kharkiv region so far this month, President Zelensky said in his nightly address on Thursday.
In a separate Facebook post Ukraine's army claimed that in the last three days alone its troops had advanced 50km (31 miles). If verified, that would mark the fastest movement of the front line since the rapid retreat of Russian forces from positions around the capital, Kyiv, in March.
The offensive south-east of Kharkiv would also bring Ukraine's troops closer to the eastern region of Donetsk, over which Russia has maintained substantial military control since the war began six months ago.

On the Wrong Track
Abortion drives Michigan governor's race as women turn against GOP, poll finds
When it came to which issue would motivate Michiganians to vote in November, 34% said abortion and women's rights — the most popular answer — ranking above inflation and the cost of living (26%), education (10%) and the economy and jobs (8%).
"This should be about (Democratic President Joe) Biden. And it's not. It's about abortion," Glengariff founder and pollster Richard Czuba said of the governor's race.

But a Michigan Court Allows Voters to Have a Say
In a just-released ruling, the Michigan Supreme Court has ordered the Board of State Canvassers to certify for the ballot the Reproductive Freedom For All petition intended to enshrine abortion rights into the state constitution. "It is undisputed that there are sufficient signatures to warrant certification," notes the court, while shooting down arguments over "sufficient space between certain words."
Republicans on the Board of State Canvassers refused to certify the ballot measure a week ago despite a record number of signatures presented, claiming missing spaces in one version of the petition was an invalidating flaw. The state's Supreme Court rejected that argument, with Chief Justice Bridget McCormack noting that "the challengers have not produced a single signer who claims to have been confused by the limited-spacing sections in the full text portion of the proposal" and calling the decision of the Republican board members a "sad marker of the times."
"They would disenfranchise millions of Michiganders not because they believe the many thousands of Michiganders who signed the proposal were confused by it, but because they think they have identified a technicality that allows them to do so, a game of gotcha gone very bad," wrote McCormack.
In a separate ruling, the court also ordered the board to certify for the ballot a measure to expand voting rights that was also blocked by the the board's Republican members.

Judge Cannon Asks Previous Guy's Lawyers for Permission
Judge Cannon is asking Trump’s lawyers to exclude those 100 classified documents from her special master order. Andrew Weissmann and Neal Katyal stated this was a sign that Judge Cannon is running up the white flag in response to the DOJ’s intention to appeal her decision to the Eleventh Court of Appeals. Both indicated that this was Cannon’s off ramp to her bonehead ruling to essentially allow Trump to dictate how he is to be investigated.
Judge Cannon had to be “schooled” in how intelligence work is done. In it’s filling to Judge Cannon, the DOJ made it plain that the FBI was BOTH a criminal investigation body and did intelligence work. In this particular case, there was no way to separate the two as this idiotic judge had ruled (you can do an investigation into national defense damage, but you couldn’t do anything with regards to criminal matters, according to Trump judge Cannon).
In fact, the FBI is the only domestic intelligence agency allowed by law.
As to what Judge Cannon will do if Trump’s lawyers still insist that they need all those documents back, which this corrupt judge said Trump could do, I have no idea. Essentially, she went the extra mile for Trump on this matter. If Cannon had any real independence, she never would have ruled for a special master in the first place.
With regards to those so called lawyers working for Trump, who knows what they will do. I expect Trump to insist that he gets “his documents” back. And that includes those classified ones.

THESE Police Need to Be DefundedDonald Trump incited an attack on the U.S. Capitol that resulted in five dead police officers and 140 more officers injured, and he is now under three criminal investigations, but that did not dissuade three dozen Pennsylvania state troopers from posing for a photo with the former president during his visit last weekend. Trump on Sunday showed off the photo of him flashing a thumbs-up sign with rows of uniformed troopers on either side of him, a large sign and logo for the “Pennsylvania State Police, Troop P, Wilkes-Barre” directly behind him. The night before, at a rally in Wilkes-Barre, he had attacked the FBI and the Department of Justice for investigating him. Just days earlier, he had said he would likely pardon all the Jan. 6, 2021, rioters, many of whom have been charged with assaulting police officers at the Capitol that day. “That’s unacceptable. It alienates a lot of people,” said U.S. Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn, who was beaten and subjected to racial threats during the final phase of Trump’s coup attempt. “Taking a formal picture at a rally where he’s literally attacking the FBI and the DOJ, your brothers and sisters in law enforcement, by the way … that’s a slap in the face.” Michael Fanone, a former Washington police officer who suffered a heart attack and traumatic brain injury after being beaten and electroshocked on Jan. 6, had a more blunt assessment of the photo. “Professionally? It’s unprofessional. It’s improper,” he said. “Personally? Those two or three dozen Pennsylvania state troopers, from the bottom of my heart, can go fuck all the way off.”

You Are Still the Biggest Loser. Bye-Bye.
A U.S. judge has dismissed Donald Trump's lawsuit against his 2016 rival Hillary Clinton, saying the former Republican president's allegations that Democrats tried to rig that election by linking his campaign to Russia was an attempt to "flaunt" political grievances that did not belong in court.
In throwing out Trump's lawsuit Thursday night, Judge Donald Middlebrooks of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida said the lawsuit was not seeking "redress for any legal harm" and that the court was "not the appropriate forum" for the former president's complaints.
"He is seeking to flaunt a two-hundred-page political manifesto outlining his grievances against those that have opposed him," Middlebrooks said in his ruling.
Trump in March had sued Clinton, who was the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, and several other Democrats alleging "racketeering," a "conspiracy to commit injurious falsehood" and other claims in a 108-page lawsuit that echoed the long list of grievances he repeatedly aired during his four years in the White House after beating Clinton.
He had sought compensatory and punitive damages, saying he had incurred more than $24 million in "defense costs, legal fees, and related expenses."

I am actually hoping that now that a 20th century icon has left the stage, it is a good time for Brits to reconsider this whole monarchy nonsense. I mean ... Charles III? Is that the face they want their country have around the world? Eat least old Liz looked dignified and nostalgic.

mhb: They are the British Kardashians.
I'd hardly compare them to rich white trash who are self-absorbed, self-serving A-holes. Don't think every major world leader would send condolences if Chloe croaked. Chloe who?
The royals devote most of their lives to social service and charity. The phony Kards devote 100% of their time to building their bank accounts and look at me media crap.
I agree that a lot of things are overdone with the royals and her death is a good example. I do not want to see non-stop 24 hr coverage on every channel for 3 days.
But I do get the Brits fascination with them. The royals are their national and historical symbol much like many Americans worship the flag. Their symbols just happen to be damned expensive ones, which I think should be curtailed.
