The Judge Ignored the Facts, the Law, Precedent, and the Rules of Court Procedure to Give Previous Guy What He Wanted
A federal judge’s extraordinary decision on Monday to interject in the criminal investigation into former President Donald J. Trump’s hoarding of sensitive government documents at his Florida residence showed unusual solicitude to him, legal specialists said.
This was “an unprecedented intervention by a federal district judge into the middle of an ongoing federal criminal and national security investigation,” said Stephen I. Vladeck, a law professor at University of Texas.
Paul Rosenzweig, a former homeland security official in the George W. Bush administration and prosecutor in the independent counsel investigation of Bill Clinton, said it was egregious to block the Justice Department from steps like asking witnesses about government files, many marked as classified, that agents had already reviewed.
“This would seem to me to be a genuinely unprecedented decision by a judge,” Mr. Rosenzweig said. “Enjoining the ongoing criminal investigation is simply untenable.”

Straight out of the authoritarian ruler's handbook: "Sometimes you don't have to break the law, you just need to find a judge to bend it for you."

Putin Takes a Drastic Step. Can the US Deal with This?
Kremlin officials have added US actors Ben Stiller and Sean Penn to Russia's "stop list", meaning they are now banned from entering the country.
They join the likes of fellow Hollywood star Morgan Freeman, US President Joe Biden and outgoing UK PM Boris Johnson.

Ohm, No! The Resistance is Amped Up.
From blowing up infrastructure and destroying arms depots, to spray-painting messages for the invading Russian forces, partisan activity is increasing in Ukraine, especially in the occupied southern parts.
The Free Ukraine Resistance Movement, a citizen-led group, writes on its website: “We’ve literally ruined Putin’s plans to ruin Ukraine from inside … Even months before the full-scale invasion, [we’d] already started to mobilise and train people for all levels of resistance to defend Ukraine – military, communications, humanitarian help and diplomacy.”
Mainly active in the southern parts of the occupied Zaporizhia region and around the city of Kherson, where Ukraine is waging a counteroffensive, partisan activity has become more coordinated since the start of the war.
“The more spectacular, sophisticated, and impactful attacks in Crimea are, in my opinion, most likely a combination of special forces operations and local assistance. They strategically disrupt Russian supply lines, undermine morale, and weaken Russia’s military capabilities in the south of Ukraine and the Black Sea,” said Stefan Wolff, a professor of international security at the University of Birmingham.
Wolff noted the differences between local efforts – partisans – and attacks primarily orchestrated by Ukrainian special forces.
“Attacks on the Ukrainian mainland, for example, in the Kherson region, are more likely local efforts and have so far been aimed mostly at Russian occupation authorities and local collaborators to weaken Russia’s control of these areas and send a message of defiance and hope to the population suffering under Russian occupation there.”
There appears to be a high level of collaboration between the Ukrainian military and partisans, who have provided troops with information about Russian forces and the situation in the occupied territories. ---------------------------- Ukraine is Winning the Humor War, Too
On August 9, at least a dozen explosions rocked a Russian military base in Crimea.
Russia’s defence ministry avoided assigning blame – saying the “detonation of several aviation ammunition stores” caused the blast – while, for its part, Ukraine’s military played it coy. It did not claim responsibility for the damaged combat planes, nor for a subsequent drone strike on the navy headquarters in the Russian-occupied area.
Instead, Ukraine’s defence ministry mockingly warned on Twitter about the dangers of smoking – sardonically suggesting that Russian soldiers caused the explosions themselves by tossing lit cigarettes.
Another particularly barbed tweet sported a Captcha mosaic of the burned-out planes with instructions to “Prove that you’re not a robot.”

India is Becoming One of the More Bigoted Countries in the World
Over the last eight years since Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been in power, Hindu majoritarianism has swept across India and non-Hindu minorities have been at the receiving end.
In June this year, the US Department of State noted in its annual report that “attacks on members of religious minority communities, including killings, assaults, and intimidation, occurred throughout the year [2021]. These included incidents of ‘cow vigilantism’ against non-Hindus based on allegations of cow slaughter or trade in beef.”
The lynching of Muslims has become common, and a slew of laws and state actions have been implemented, putting their lives and way of life in mortal jeopardy.
Other minorities such as Christians have also been attacked with their schools and churches targeted over right-wing Hindu claims of forced conversions.

Remember to Walk. Walk to Remember.
Want to reduce your risk for dementia? Slap on a step counter and start tallying your steps – you’ll need between 3,800 and 9,800 each day to reduce your risk of mental decline, according to a new study.
People between the ages of 40 and 79 who took 9,826 steps per day were 50% less likely to develop dementia within seven years, the study found. Furthermore, people who walked with “purpose” – at a pace over 40 steps a minute – were able to cut their risk of dementia by 57% with just 6,315 steps a day.
“It is a brisk walking activity, like a power walk,” said study coauthor Borja del Pozo Cruz, an adjunct associate professor at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense, Denmark, and senior researcher in health sciences for the University of Cadiz in Spain.
Even people who walked approximately 3,800 steps a day at any speed cut their risk of dementia by 25%, the study found.

Take a Visit to HawkinsWhile the town of Hawkins, Indiana, remains fictional, one hotel in the state is turning “Stranger Things” into reality. The Graduate Bloomington is offering fans of the Netflix series a spooky stay in the show’s universe by turning a suite into the homes of multiple characters just in time for Halloween, according to ABC affiliate WHAS 11. “We really wanted to make locals and people from afar come to Graduate Bloomington to feel like you’re in the series,” Lauren Davis, the hotel’s sales director, told WHAS. One of the rooms aims to resemble the living room of Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and comes with the alphabet wall she used in Season 1 to communicate with her son, Will (Noah Schnapp), while he was trapped in the show’s alternate dimension, “the Upside Down.” The adjoining room mimics the Wheeler family basement and includes the fort that Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) used to live in while hiding from shadowy government authorities, as well as a stack of her favorite Eggo waffles, according to the hotel. “The Upside Down Experience” is decorated with 1980s wallpaper, includes retro board games, and comes with a map to hunt the fictional Demogorgon, according to Elite Daily.

Putin Knows All the Worst People
The Russian Ministry of Defense is in the process of purchasing millions of rockets and artillery shells from North Korea for its ongoing fight in Ukraine, according to a newly downgraded U.S. intelligence finding.
A U.S. official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the intelligence determination, said Monday that the fact Russia is turning to the isolated state of North Korea demonstrates that “the Russian military continues to suffer from severe supply shortages in Ukraine, due in part to export controls and sanctions.”

We've Been Talkin' 'Bout Jackson, Ever Since the Water Went Out
Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves (R) on Monday announced water pressure is solid and back to normal in Jackson, as the city continues to battle long-standing infrastructure issues, which intensified after flooding affected the city’s main water treatment facility.
The crisis left residents of Jackson unable to flush their toilets but also meant the city would have been unable to meet critical needs, including fighting fires.
