I lost my girlfriend’s audiobook, and now I’ll never hear the end of it.
No Crimea, No Peace
The war in Ukraine began with Crimea and must end with its liberation, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.
Ukraine's president was speaking after a string of explosions hit a Russian airbase there, killing one person.
Mr Zelensky did not mention Tuesday's blasts but said: "Crimea is Ukrainian and we will never give it up."

Health Tip: Keep Away from Shrews
Scientists are tracking a new, animal-derived virus in eastern China that has infected at least several dozen people.
The novel Langya henipavirus (LayV) was found in 35 patients in the Shandong and Henan provinces. Many had symptoms such as fever, fatigue and a cough.
They are thought to have contracted the virus from animals. There is no evidence so far LayV can transmit among humans.
Researchers detected the virus predominantly in shrews.

Sound Like a Mob Boss Yet?
How can you be pretty damned sure there were classified White House documents illegally squirreled away at Trump’s Florida home? Trump and MAGAland are telling us so. They are so convinced that the FBI’s warranted search of Mar-a-Lago is going to turn up evidence, they’re frantically working to poison it.
Donald Trump invoked the Fifth Amendment and wouldn’t answer questions under oath in the New York attorney general’s long-running civil investigation into his business dealings, the former president said in a statement Wednesday.
From 2017:
“You see the mob takes the Fifth,” Trump said during a campaign stop in Iowa late last September. “If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?”
His target then: former Hillary Clinton aides who had done it during inquiries into her use of a private email server while secretary of state.

It's NOT the Real Thing
Coca-Cola’s latest experimental, limited-time flavor is here. It’s called … wait for it … Dreamworld. And it tastes like … dreams?
“We wanted to create a dream-inspired drink that was recognizably Coca-Cola but with additional cues that bring to life the playfulness and brightness of dreams,” a company spokesperson said in an email about the product.
“We took inspiration from the technicolor world of dreams, adding a dash of vibrant flavors to our great Coca-Cola taste,” the spokesperson added.
“Dreamworld” is the fourth drink to come out of Coca-Cola Creations, Coke’s new innovation platform that focuses on limited-time items with a digital component. Creations is a way for Coca-Cola to shine a spotlight on its core product, while trying to bring gamers and younger audiences into the fold.

Domino's Rolled the Dice and Lost
Domino’s’ Italian job was harder than it looked.
Seven years after its debut in the country, the American pizza giant has formally shut its stores after it failed to win over locals who preferred homegrown options, according to a report by Milano Today.
EPizza SpA, the franchise operator of the Domino’s (DMPZF) brand in Italy, filed for bankruptcy in April, after it struggled to make enough sales during two years of pandemic restrictions, according to a document filed in a Milan court.
The company stopped activity in all its Domino’s stores on July 20, according to a report by Food Service, an Italian food industry publication.
Although some may attribute Domino’s failure to its brazen attempt to infiltrate pizza’s homeland with American fare, ePizza said it went bust because of competition from food delivery apps.
The Milan-based company faced “unprecedented competition” from local restaurants that started using services such as Glovo, Just Eat and Deliveroo during the pandemic, the court filing said.

Protecting a Racist With a Racist Policy. Is That Chauvinism?
The Ramsey County Board of Commissioners in Minnesota on Tuesday approved a nearly $1.5 million settlement agreement for eight correctional officers of color who were barred from guarding former police officer Derek Chauvin in 2020.
The correctional officers claimed in a lawsuit last year that the Ramsey County Adult Detention Center prohibited them from “interacting with or guarding Chauvin,” who is White, “or going anywhere” on the floor where he was held in what the suit called a “segregation” order given by the detention center’s superintendent, Steve Lydon.
CNN has reached out to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, which runs the detention center, for comment but has not received a response.
Chauvin was convicted in April 2021 of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the 2020 death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. He is appealing his conviction.

The FBI Has Been Busy Searching
Rep. Scott Perry, a Pennsylvania Republican and vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump’s 2020 election fraud lies, had his phone seized by the FBI on Tuesday.
Perry said he was traveling with his family when agents paid him a visit. In a statement after the device was seized, the Republican lawmaker complained that there was no attempt to contact his lawyer. Had the FBI done so, he would have “made arrangements for them to have my phone if that was their wish,” he said. (He could have also made arrangements to wipe things from it.)
It is unclear as of Wednesday morning what the FBI specifically sought on Perry’s phone.
Perry garnered considerable interest from the Jan. 6 committee over the course of its investigation and he was the first lawmaker the panel subpoenaed as it scrutinized Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election results.
As a key ally to Trump when he was in the White House, Perry introduced the 45th president to Jeffrey Clark, a middling attorney at the Department of Justice.

Does This Mean That He Will Get Away With His Other Abuses of Power? No Deterrent in That.
Nearly 60% of Americans say Trump should be charged for Jan. 6
A new ABC News / Ipsos poll published Sunday found that found that 58% of respondents believe that the former president should be charged for his role in the Jan. 6 riot
The results of the survey are mostly divided along party lines, with more than 90% of Democrats saying that Trump bears a “great deal” or “good amount” of responsibility for the attack on the capital, compared with only 21% of Republicans

Tucker Carlson ‘Shitting Himself’ Scared That His Alex Jones Texts May Leak
Tucker Carlson is “shitting himself” over the possibility that texts between him and far-right conspiracy loon Alex Jones will leak, a source close to the Fox News star told Confider.
Carlson and the raving Infowars ranter trade text messages on a daily basis, according to two people familiar with their relationship. If made public, these sources said, the text messages would be “highly embarrassing” for Carlson.

How Delusional Are Russians? They Think H&M Is a Good Store
Russians are snapping up Western fashion and furniture this week as H&M and IKEA sell off the last of their inventory in Russia, moving forward with their exit from the country after it sent troops into Ukraine.
Sweden-based H&M and Netherlands-based IKEA had paused sales in Russia after the military operation began and are now looking to unload their stocks of clothing and furnishings as they wind down operations there, saying the future is unpredictable. IKEA’s sales are online only, while the H&M store at the Moscow shopping mall Aviapark saw a steady stream of young shoppers Tuesday.
The racks and shelves were well stocked in the clothing retailer. Nearby shops were closed, including Zara, Oysho, Bershka, Pull&Bear and Uniqlo, while New Yorker, Finn Flare, Marks & Spencer and Mango were open.
“I will start looking at Russian brands,” one H&M shopper, who gave only her first name Anya, said after emerging from the store. Another shopper, who only gave his name as Leonid, said he was “very hurt” that H&M is closing down: “A good store is leaving.”

Have a Margarita to Celebrate. (As If You Needed an Excuse.)
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said that it has ended a Trump-era policy requiring asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico for hearings in US immigration court, hours after a judge lifted an order, in effect since December, that the so-called Remain in Mexico rule be reinstated.
The timing had been in doubt since the US supreme court ruled on 30 June that the Biden administration could end the policy.
Homeland security officials had been largely silent, saying they had to wait for the court to certify the ruling and for a Trump-appointed judge, Matthew Kacsmaryk, in Amarillo, Texas, to then lift his injunction.
The supreme court certified its ruling last week and critics of the policy had been increasingly outspoken about the Biden administration’s reticence on Remain in Mexico, calling for an immediate end to it.
“It’s a zombie policy,” Karen Tumlin, founder of Justice Action Center, an immigration litigation organization, said last week.
The program now will be unwound in a “quick, and orderly manner”, DHS said in a statement. No more people are being enrolled and those who appear in court will not be returned to Mexico when they appear in the US for their next hearings.

These Forces Are Special
Tuesday’s airfield explosion in Crimea was the work of Ukrainian special forces, a Ukrainian official told The Post. The official, who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and confirmed Ukraine’s role on the condition of anonymity, did not disclose details of how the attack was carried out. The Ukrainian air force said in a separate statement that nine Russian aircraft were destroyed in the blast, without any claim of responsibility. The attack reportedly killed one person and injured at least 13, including two children.
A Ukrainian attack in Crimea would mark a dramatic escalation in the war. It would demonstrate a remarkable ability by Ukrainian forces, or their allies, to strike at Russia far from the front lines. Russia said the blast at the air base was caused by an ammunition explosion. A U.S. official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told The Post that Ukrainian forces apparently had carried out the strike but did not use a weapon provided by the United States.
