all of this could have happened:
Roe would still be in force
AR15's would be illegal
meaningful gun laws would be passed
people in every state would have voter protection
Medicare could negotiate drug prices
Medicare could be expanded
environmental protection laws would be enforced
basic human rights would not be under threat from scotus
a list of programs to help struggling Americans would pass
If all of that had happened do you think it would help their re-election chances?
If they had eliminated the filibuster and re-populated scotus to balance it out all of that could have happened.
But no. Eliminating the filibuster would infuriate the right and is dangerous for the future. OK, but how much more danger can there be than what we are already facing as fact? I call lame excuse.
But no. Packing the court is not nice, violates tradition, is purely political, and might open the door to worse future court tampering. Again I ask. How much worse can it be? The existing court is set to wipe out 50 years of social progress and go full support to eliminate equal rights and democracy itself. And if the repubs take the midterms you can all but guarantee it.
Most of all I hate to say that even if Biden et al. had moved to do those 2 things it is very likely that only 2 people could have derailed the entire process, crippled democracy, and sent America down a dark hole--Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema.
I have no solution for those 2 other than to label them for what they are--self-serving pond scum and traitors to their party and the American people.
So, democracy and equal rights are on a sinking ship and who is to blame? Weak-minded American voters. The end.
