A neighbor who took off and landed on floating airfields around the world. We agreed that right now America looks wounded and adrift. Accordingly, despots like Putin and Xi are emboldened to find out where and how hard they can push against our interests; Ukraine and Taiwan being examples.
Much of the problem stems from the days of the Trump Administration, where foreign policy was made on a whim. Trump loved dictators, because he wanted to be one too. He was all hat and no cattle.
Biden has a tough hand to play. His poll numbers are down, which affects his ability to lead. The Republicans aren't any help at all and rejoice at Biden's problems.
I don't feel optimistic right now. People are behaving poorly, due to Covid burn-out and economic pressures, like inflation. Worst of all is that disinformation can travel at the speed of light. The dust never settles because some people keep kicking it up. The 24-hour news channels are not performing a public service. Their type of drive-by news doesn't allow for any discussion or context. It's sad but true, that rather than enlightening us, the internet has warped or numbed our senses with an incessant barrage of rubbish.

Pretty accurate summation. No doubt our two greatest challenges are the gop and their propaganda sources masquerading as news dedicated to taking down the govt. When half of our politicians see the other half as their sworn enemies an effective government is impossible. Too harsh? Just listen to McConnell and McCarthy. And when almost half of the population believe any propaganda they are fed without any desire to search for facts positive change is out of reach. I don't see a good end to this but certainly hope I am wrong.

Now G.O.P. means Groveling Obsequious Puppets; fearful of the wrath of one man. Nothing good will come when an entire political party is pinned under the thumb of one man and that man is truly evil.

I think others simply see supporting the big lie as a means to grab power and hold on to it. It is a cynical play to get power and money.

mhb: Some elected officials are afraid of Trump.
I would alter that to say nearly all gop'ers are afraid of the orange troll. Maybe less than 5% don't see him as a danger and he will surely come after them. Some will likely lose their seats. trump wields real power for one reason only--almost half of the American public are total morons who believe anything he spews no matter how absurd. I don't see any chance for that to change.
