Harvard-Westlake (it's in Studio City, not Boston or Westlake Village): Brady Dunlap, 6-6 2023 Wing, looks very deadly from 3. Paul Biancardi thought the same at the McDonald's Camp: www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/insider/story/_/id/32338448/10-men-college-basketball-recruits-stood-mcdonald-camp (this is behind the ESPN+ paywall).
Notre Dame (the one in Sherman Oaks): UCLA offeree Dusty Stroman, 6-6 2023 Wing, looks even more lethal from long range. He seems to be getting taller and filling out at a pace much faster than the heretofore more-touted Dunlap and has developed some pretty good moves off the dribble. Pretty solid playmaker.
This is why scouting can be a silly endeavor. You never know how fast younger players will get better or which ones will make a big move.
Or how fast college players get better (e.g., Russell Westbrook).
Many college coaches in attendance at H-W including USC Associate Head Coach Chris Capko.
Jayden Harper, 6-7 F 2024, looks good for Notre Dame (he had a very good day at the Pangos FR-SO Showcase, but only played on Saturday).
I finally found a way to get into Sierra Canyon's practices. That might be fun.
Speaking of THE TEAM THAT DROVE SIERRA CANYON DOWN LAST YEAR, Corona Centennial might have lost UCLA offeree Kylan Boswell, 6-2 SG 2023, to Compass Prep in Arizona (where UCLA commit and Los Angeles Windward School transfer 6-3 PG 2022 Dylan Andrews will give him plenty of easy shots), but they add 6-4 Wing 2024 Eric Freeny, who I didn't mention in my notes on the Pangos event (too many guys to write about all of them). Freeny is very long and rangy (I would guess a wingspan of at least 6-8) and very quick and intense on d. So, their defense will likely be much better than last year and Donovan Dent, Jared McCain and Aaron McBride can score all of the points.
Kevin Anigbogu, 6-9 C 2024, also joins Corona Centennial. He's big. Not as athletic as his one and done UCLA bro and lacks skill. But between 6-7 2023 McBride, 6-11 2023 Donovan Williams and Anigbogu, this is one of the few teams that can match Sierra Canyon in size (Shy Odom sort of vanished in the second half of the Open Division title game last year). Dent is 6-2 PG 2022 and might weigh 190. McCain is 6-4 2023 and when you add Freeny, the Huskies are also one of the few teams that won't be overmatched physically in the backcourt by Sierra Canyon's guards.
Never bet against the Inland Empire.
I think Damien is going to be a sleeper even with Malik Thomas now at USC. Colorado commit RJ Smith 6-4 SG 2022 is pretty nasty and will likely score over 25 PPG as a SR, but Jimmy Oladokun 6-8 2023 F might be the most underrated player nationally in his class and Kaleb Smith 6-8 235 4/5 2022 has been hitting 3s and showing the ability to space the floor. He's started to get D 1 offers.
