UCLA recruits include (the number is their ranking in Rivals top 150):
2. Marquis Cook, 6-7 SF Compass Prep in Chandler, Arizona (he's known as Mookie and transferred there from Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Oregon; there's a Portland Jefferson that has produced a lot of talent).
3. McKenzie McBako, 6-8 SF from a St. Bernards in New Jersey.
9. Kylan Boswell, 6-2 PG now at Compass Prep instead of Corona Centennial after attending Ontario Colony his FR year. Comment: He's not remotely a PG, not even close. He's being labeled one because of his size. The scouting of the 2023 and younger classes is still pretty suspect. Boswell was added to this list for the first time so he wasn't ranked in the top 150 until now.
15. Simeon Wilcher, 6-5 PG Roselle Catholic in New Jersey. He's a PG.
16. Jared McCain, 6-2 SG Corona Centennial. UCLA hasn't offered him, even though he's actually 6-4, can play PG as well as SG and is the better player and far better student than Boswell. A little birdy told me UCLA plans to offer McCain and offered Boswell first as a strategic decision. When Rivals scouted both Boswell and McCain they acknowledged that McCain is the better player so their decision to rank Boswell higher smacks of politics (more offers from big name schools). He reminds me of a more athletic Trajan Langdon and I think UCLA will offer him and get him. He's also new to the rankings.
18. Mikey Williams, 6-1 PG Vertical School in North Carolina. This is his 3rd school in 3 years and I'm stunned UCLA offered him a scholarship. He's dropped in the rankings from 4 to 18 and I expect him to continue to drop. He's an unrepentant gunner, one of the most selfish players I've ever seen (that's been encouraged by ridiculous over-the-top hype) and doesn't "fit" UCLA at all. He'll likely go pro.
27. Matas Buzelis, 6-10 SF Brewster Academy. This guy I really like. He's a perfect fit. Like McCain. This guy can play PG better than Boswell at 6-10. Sounds like Cronin's anticipating having to replace Jaquez and Juzang early...
34. Bronny James, 6-2 Sierra Canyon... punk. No, UCLA hasn't offered. North Carolina Central is the only school to offer. He's actually grown to 6-4, but he's only scored more than 4 points once in a game (he banked in a 3 so he had 7 in one game). As far as I can tell, he's being ranked strictly based on his name. It clearly can't be based on talent because he hasn't shown yet that he can play at the D 1 level. He's always getting recruited over at Sierra Canyon (they brought in 2025 superstar 6-5 Isaiah Elohim to join 6-4 Amari Bailey, UCLA, and 6-6 Ramel Lloyd, Jr., Arkansas, in what has to be the best backcourt at any California high school ever) and I wish people would just leave him alone. Let him find his own way and he'll be as good as he turns out to be and you can't ask anything more from anyone.
50. Ja'Kobe Walter, 6-5 SG from McKinney High in Texas. Rivals doesn't show a UCLA offer, but 24/7 does.
That's guys in the top 50.
I'll get to the others later.
Oh, UCLA hasn't offered Dusty Stromer, #47, a 6-6 SG from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. I'm calling it: Sierra Canyon will offer him a scholarship and he'll replace Lloyd in the lineup. They'll probably go after Darius Carr, 6-2 PG, from Cathedral to replace Bailey.
I think UCLA might well end up offering Carr.
Guys in the 2023 class I'd like to see UCLA offer from So Cal:
Jazz Gardner, 6-10 C Hacienda Heights Los Altos.
Darius Carr, as aforesaid.
Jared McCain, as aforesaid.
Brady Dunlap, 6-7 SF Harvard-Westlake
Jimmy Oladokun, 6-8 PF Damien. This one is going to be a beast. A serious beast. Clearly, the scouts haven't seen him play.
Guys I'd like to see more of before I text Mick Cronin:
Dennis Evans, 7-1 C Riverside Christian (amazing rim protector and rebounder, but raw on offense for now) (someone sitting next to me was talking to Cronin on the phone during one of his games and after the call he told me that Cronin and his staff had started watching all of his games on Baller TV). In the game we were at, he played 22 minutes and had 12 blocks and about as many alterations against a team with 4 guys 6-10 or taller and all with multiple High D 1 offers and all ranked in the top 100 of Rivals, 24/7 and ESPN+. He scored 18 points, all on dunks except for two free throws, he was 2-3 from the line which ain't bad for a big). I have to assume that scouts at 24/7, Rivals and ESPN+ have simply never seen him play.
Aaron McBride, 6-7 SF/PF Corona Centennial (is he still growing? Will he continue to improve and extend his J and handle?).
