Dennis Evans, 7-1 2023 Riverside Hillcrest Prep, is clearly a UCLA target of interest.
Mick Cronin doesn't go watch a player in person unless Darren Savino or Rod Palmer told him he'd better do it.
Like Myles Johnson, this young man lacks any offensive talent but dunking.
Although he was 4-6 from the FT line in one game and 2-4 in another. Maybe he just had a good day, but 6-10 sounds better than 38% which is what Myles Johnson did last year at Rutgers.
He's skinny (unlike Myles Johnson), but not too skinny (24/7 has him at 7-1 210 with zero stars since they've never seen him play). 210 might be right. Maybe 220.
Wingspan? At least 7-7, like Myles Johnson. Maybe longer.
Scary long arms and scary giant shoes.
The young man is still growing, into his body and hopefully not out of it.
In one game I saw, he blocked 5 shots on one possession (he blocked the first attempt and 4 more off of the offensive rebounds his teammates were giving up).
When he blocked the 5th shot, that was a 3-point attempt and young Mr. Evans (he's 17 already so younger than Cody Riley and as old as Johnny Juzang for his class before Johnny reclassified... again) only had to take about one step to get close enough to both block it and catch the rebound and fire it to a teammate for a monster jam at the other end.
That's when the damn broke loose and Inland 17 (not Inland Rotary 17) broke the opposing team.
So, if you have Baller TV the platinum package for $239 per annum, find 2021-22 Pangos 32 July 16-18 and find the games with Inland 17 playing someone else. They played the ICAN All-Stars 17 (no, you could not) at 12:20 and the Salt Laker Rebels Red 17 (is that what you call it? A rebellion?) at 2:40 on Saturday.
Dennis Evans is #55.
He wears goggles.
And he's very tall.
You can't miss him at this point.
On the same team, you might enjoy:
#0 Christian Richardson 7-0 2022 (he's from Florida originally, but now at Hesperia Porter House; Kool Aid Perry is still alive and kicking, I'm definitely hitting him up on Monday)
#35 Solomon Davis, 6-6 2024, Riverside Poly (Reggie Miller played there)
#3 Jaden Henley, 6-6 2023 Ontario Colony (where Kylan Boswell played before he transferred to Corona Centennial; Jaylen Clark played at Corona Centennial for 3 years before he transferred to Etiwanda... if Jaden Henley transfers to Corona Centennial, Sierra Canyon might as well get itself buried)
#23 Sean Bass 6-6 2022 Ontario Colony
#4 Michael Miller, 6-4 2023 Hesperia Oak Hills
#1 Ruben Sevilla, 5-10 2023 Riverside Hillcrest Prep (D 3 schools will love him if he remains the same for the next 2 years, but he might go Ivy... unless he just gets better and older by the time he's a SR in which case he might be at LMU or Portland and after 3 years transfer to Stanford).
#7 Ashton McCullough and his older brother #11 Jonathan McCullough didn't get a chance to play. Ashton is listed at 6-3 and Jonathan at 6-4. I don't know why they didn't play either of the games I saw. I do see that Jonathan is listed as 2023 Hesperia Porter House. Younger bro is listed as 2025 TBD.
Doesn't Ashton want to play with his brother since he's finished the 8th grade and is ready to start high school this fall?
Or are they both thinking of transferring to one of Etiwanda or Corona Centennial? Or will they go to Colony for a year before they transfer to CC?
I'll see if I can find out.
Next posting on MAP will be tomorrow.
This is for the UCLA fans.
