This isn't someone I know, he's a friend of a friend, but our families did hang out on NYE together several years ago. The mutual friend texted me a while back, telling me that the guy had been hospitalized with Covid.
I've been getting updated periodically.
He's been in the hospital about 30 days. The worst point, was he was heavily sedated (it was referred to as "induced coma" at one point). He was intubated and on dialysis.
I asked today how he's doing. He was recently trach'ed. After having been trach'ed, his kidney function improved - he's off dialysis. He needs less ventilation support, and he's getting some physical therapy. Dude has been through a wild ride. Hope he keeps improving.
Oh, the guy is like 45-46 years old. No underlying conditions.

COVID-19 really seems to be doing a number on kidneys. Almost all of the COVID-19 patients on dialysis in L.A. County hospital are not existing dialysis patients.

I posted about a 41 year old guy I know. Not only does he not have preexisting conditions, he is a fitness freak. He passed out in his worst night. Now he carries an inhaler and feels tired all the time. He recovered two weeks ago.
