I still had the DVD option on Netflix, which was awesome when I was going through the classic Doctos Who episodes (1963-1989).. but since then, it wasn't doing me any good. So I finally bit, cancelled it, and replaced it with the Criterion Collection online service.
Holy Moly. The treasure trove of movies on this channel! It is ammmmmmazing! I'm paralysed because literally, I don't know where to start. And I am not a cinephile by any means. Just an occasional enthusiast.

Monthly about 10 bucks, annually 99 buck, which makes it about 8 bucks a month. You watch one mivie a month, it's already better than going to the theater.

Here's what I don't get. HBO Max is launching at the end of next month. They'll have a huge amount of stuff from libaries (note the plural) they own, including Warner Bros., MGM, RKO, and of course HBO. They say they are offering titles from Criterion.
I don't know what they mean about Criterion. Do HBO Max subscribers get a pass for Criterion? Or do they get Criterion Light? Or does the Criterion service go away? Or . . .?

My daughter works for a subsidiary of AT&T and will get a free subscription to HBO Max. When it goes live, I should be able to answer questions about what is and is not available.

There are some titles that criterion does not seem to have exclusive rights to, especially some new titles. I wonder if the that's the game they're playing (I noticed that with some Wes Anderson movies).
But.... We shall see soon what that means.
Blu, i know you're into movies. Have you considered Criterion online? Do you already subscribe to it?

Okay, time to come out of the closet.
We're fortunate to be in an area where we get clear broadcast signals. We don't have broadband and we don't have cable. We 'cut the cord' way before anyone else. With some of the alternate side channels on broadcast, I catch a lot of classic movies. Titles I like to see over and over I get on DVD. I also spend a lot of time in theaters (or at least I used to) including Laemmle, the Frida, Billy Wilder, Egyptian, and the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse.
With the streaming options expanding, we may soon be joining the party. But we are also working toward moving to a new home. So it will probably wait until then. No set timeline, though.

Dude, I'm so happy for you that you have a vast crazy world of cinematic discovery ahead of you once you move to an area with broadband. You'll be bouncing back and forth between options not knowing what to pick next. All things being equal, not a bad problem to have in my book.

Clark Howard article
According to Clark Howard, a lot of AT&T customers will get HBO Max for free if they currently have AT&T services. We have AT&T cellular, so we would get it even if our daughter wasn't an AT&T employee. (We get cell service at the employee rate, which only costs us most of an arm and a leg.)

I think HBO Max is going to be a 'must have' for many people.

The line that I am seeing on HBO Max related stories is if you are an HBO Now customer being billed directly (and I believe I am) as opposed to having the membership through some Roku or AppleTv membership, your HBO Now account will be converted to HBO Go. Fingers crossed.
One of my favorites new shows last year, DC Universe's Doom Patrol (don't snicker, people, it's batshit crazy and insanely good) will also be aired on HBO Max ... so I really gots to have it!
