Got my girlfriend a "get better soon" card. She's not sick, I just think she could get better.
Previous Guy Wants to Get Worse Later
Attorneys for Donald Trump on Thursday requested an April 2026 trial date for the former president to face federal charges stemming from his sweeping effort to overturn the 2020 election.
If accepted, the request from Trump's legal team would place the trial date close to a year and a half after the 2024 presidential election—and more than five years after the January 6, 2021 insurrection. Trump, who has been indicted four times this year, is currently the frontrunner for the Republican nomination.
The proposed trial date drew immediate scorn from legal experts.
"I assume Trump's lawyers were choosing between suggesting a trial date in 2026 and one in 3026, so 2026 is by far the sooner date," wrote Orin Kerr, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.
The request from the former president's lawyers came in response to Special Counsel Jack Smith's proposed January 2, 2024 trial date—less than two weeks before the Iowa Republican caucus.
In a filing, Trump's attorneys complained that "even assuming we could begin reviewing the documents today, we would need to proceed at a pace of 99,762 pages per day to finish the government's initial production by its proposed date for jury selection."
"That is the entirety of Tolstoy's 'War and Peace,' cover to cover, 78 times a day, every day, from now until jury selection," the filing reads.
Why Would Anyone Read War and Peace 78 Times? I Read It Once, and That Was One Time Too Many.

If He's Too Cheap, Cheap, Cheap, They May Sing Like a Bird ... To the Prosecutors.
A surprising and critical decision by a top Donald Trump adviser on which allies of the former president will get their legal fees covered by his PAC – and who is being excluded – could come back to haunt the now four-times indicted former president.
According to reports, Trump's Save America Pac has been shelling out millions to lawyers defending Trump associates who have been swept up in his alleged criminal activities that have him on the precipice of four separate trials in Manhattan, Florida, Washington D.C. and now Georgia.
As MSNBC's Hayes Brown wrote, senior Trump adviser Susie Wiles, is making the calls on who gets paid-for legal representation and who gets left out in the cold – which now includes former Trump attorneys Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis, who are both accused of being neck-deep in the former president's attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
Now that both have been indicted under the RICO act by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Wills as co-conspirators, the decision to let them fend for themselves opens the door for them to flip on the former president for purely financial reasons, Brown wrote.
"Trump isn’t unaware of his former friend’s problems — he just doesn’t seem to particularly care," he said, before adding, "This penny-pinching seems like a bad idea when you consider that there’s still a chance that federal prosecutors could charge Giuliani for his role in trying to flip the 2020 election’s outcome — and in turn offer some kind of deal if he became a witness against Trump."
"And this stinginess hasn’t changed the fact that Trump’s political committee is paying a massive amount of money in legal fees, potentially threatening the presidential run that would inoculate him from several of these cases," he wrote before warning, "If the idea behind that expenditure is to keep the people who know where the metaphorical bodies are buried in check, then getting cheap now seems like a major strategic error for Trump."

Speaking of Things That Fly
The United States has approved sending F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine from Denmark and the Netherlands to defend against Russian invaders as soon as pilot training is completed, a U.S. official said on Thursday.
Ukraine has actively sought the U.S.-made F-16 fighter jets to help it counter Russian air superiority.
Washington gave Denmark and the Netherlands official assurances that the United States will expedite approval of transfer requests for F-16s to go to Ukraine when the pilots are trained, the official said.

Can You Become Allergic to Meat and Milk From a Tick Bite?
What is alpha-gal syndrome (AGS)? (It's Not a Woman With a Type-A Personality)
Alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) is a serious, potentially life-threatening allergic condition. AGS is also called alpha-gal allergy, red meat allergy, or tick bite meat allergy. AGS is not caused by an infection. AGS symptoms occur after people eat red meat or are exposed to other products containing alpha-gal.
Alpha-gal can be found in meat (pork, beef, rabbit, lamb, venison, etc.) and products made from mammals (including gelatin, cow’s milk, and milk products).
Can I get AGS from a tick bite?
Yes, AGS is associated with tick bites. Evidence suggests that AGS is primarily associated with the bite of a lone star tick in the United States, but other kinds of ticks have not been ruled out. Other tick species have been connected with the development of AGS in other countries.
But Canibalism Is Still Ok
Alpha-gal is not found in fish, reptiles, birds, or people.

Pray for Kelowna. They are Surrounded.
The world is waking up to yet another wildfire calamity. An alarming situation in south-central British Columbia unfolds as wildfires break out in Kelowna, a rather large city in British Columbia’s wine country. The metropolitan area had a population of 223,000 in 2020, the city roughly 178,000, and people have either been ordered to evacuate or put on notice to evacuate at a moment's notice due to the now out-of-control McDougall Creek wildfire.
The region has been windy, and embers have ignited a second forest fire near the city. Some residents had to flee into Okanagan Lake as flames blocked any possible exit by car. Alerts have been sent to boaters to rescue those people. A state of Emergency was issued last night for West Kelowna and the Westbank First Nation. Strong winds are only intensifying the firestorm.

The Hospital Insisted That Doctors Apologize to LetbyHospital bosses failed to investigate allegations against Lucy Letby and tried to silence doctors, the lead consultant at the neonatal unit where she worked has told the BBC. The hospital also delayed calling the police despite months of warnings that the nurse may have been killing babies. The unit's lead consultant Dr Stephen Brearey first raised concerns about Letby in October 2015. No action was taken and she went on to attack five more babies, killing two. Letby has been found guilty of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others in a neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital, in Cheshire. The first five murders all happened between June and October 2015 and - despite months of warnings - the final two were in June 2016. Hospital bosses ignored months of doctors' warnings about Lucy Letby

Maybe He Should Relase All the "Evidence" He Found About Obama's Birth Certifcate Instead. On Tuesday, Donald Trump announced that he had “A large, complex, detailed but irrefutable report on the presidential election fraud which took place in Georgia…” that he would present at 11 AM on Monday. Based on that report, Trump insisted, all charges should be dropped and he could receive “complete exoneration.” That is, of course, nothing like how the legal system works. But it doesn’t matter, because now the chicken feathers are flying and there’s not going to be any “irrefutable report.” Instead, Trump went scrambling back to his failing social media platform on Thursday night to deliver an announcement so weasel-worded that it would embarrass weasels. The big news conference is “no longer necessary” because someone has finally managed to get through to Trump that he was digging his own legal grave. Earlier in the day, ABC News reported that Trump’s attorneys were trying to make it clear to him that standing in front of a camera and repeating lies that were already part of criminal acts contained in the indictment issued by a Fulton County, Georgia, grand jury would “only complicate his legal problems.” Because in America (and probably everywhere), repeating the lies that already got you in trouble in a forum where no one gets to challenge those lies can only make things worse, not better. 'HE DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND THE MONEY' Michael Cohen says Trump lied about sending investigators to Hawaii to look into Obama's birth certificate

53% + 11% = 64%.
Trump enjoys strong support among Republicans. The general election could be a different story
Nearly two-thirds of Republicans — 63% — now say they want the former president to run again, according to new polling from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. That’s up slightly from the 55% who said the same in April when Trump began facing a series of criminal charges. Seven in 10 Republicans now have a favorable opinion of Trump, an uptick from the 60% who said so two months ago.
But in a crucial warning sign for the former president and his supporters, Trump faces glaring vulnerabilities heading into a general election, with many Americans strongly dug in against him. While most Republicans — 74% — say they would support him in November 2024, 53% of Americans say they would definitely not support him if he is the nominee. Another 11% say they would probably not support him in November 2024.

He's on the Lam. (What's a "Lam"?)
Authorities are searching for a member of the Proud Boys extremist group who disappeared days before his sentencing in a U.S. Capitol riot case, where prosecutors are seeking more than a decade in prison, according to a warrant made public Friday.
Christopher Worrell of Naples, Florida, was supposed to be sentenced Friday after being found guilty of spraying pepper spray gel on police officers, as part of the mob storming the Capitol as Congress was certifying Joe Biden’s presidential victory on Jan. 6, 2021. Prosecutors had asked a judge to sentence him to 14 years.
The sentencing was canceled and a warrant for his arrest issued under seal on Tuesday, according to court records. The U.S. attorney’s office for Washington D.C. encouraged the public to share any information about his whereabouts.
Worrell had been on house arrest in Florida since his release from jail in Washington in November 2021

In MAGA World, No Good Deed Goes Unpunished.
Names, pictures and even home addresses of Georgia grand jurors who indicted former President Donald Trump are circulating online as authorities are rushing to identify the origin of any credible threats against jurors.
For example, a user of a fringe social media site posted purported names, rough ages and addresses of jurors Wednesday, according to the group Advance Democracy. A verified user on X, formerly Twitter, posted pictures of three jurors Tuesday, according to the group.
An anonymous user called the list of jurors' names "a hit list," according to the group Media Matters for America.
“These jurors have signed their death warrant by falsely indicting President Trump,” said one message on the fringe site.
The Fulton County Sheriff's Office issued a statement saying it was working with local and federal authorities to identify the origin of threats against jurors.
"We take this matter very seriously and are coordinating with our law enforcement partners to respond quickly to any credible threat and ensure the safety of those individuals who carried out their civic duty," the statement said.
“It’s becoming all too commonplace to see everyday citizens performing necessary functions for our democracy being targeted with violent threats by Trump-supporting extremists," said Daniel J. Jones, president of Advance Democracy, a nonprofit organization that conducts public-interest investigations. "The lack of political leadership on the right to denounce these threats − which serve to inspire real-world political violence − is shameful.”

Have You Seen Your Banker, Baby, Standing in the Shadows?Amajor Chinese investment trust has missed payments to corporate investors, sparking a rare protest and adding to concerns that a slump in China’s property market could trigger a wider financial crisis. At least three Chinese companies — Nacity Property Service, KBC Corporation and Xianheng International Science and Technology — said in separate stock exchange filings in recent weeks that Zhongrong Trust had failed to pay the interest and principal on several investment products. The scale of payments missed exceeded 110 million yuan ($15 million), according to their statements. Zhongrong Trust, which managed $87 billion worth of funds for corporate clients and wealthy individuals as of the end of 2022, is one of thousands of wealth management firms in China that offer relatively high levels of return to investors. They are considered part of the “shadow banking” industry, a sector that forms an important source of finance in China. The term usually refers to financing activity that takes place outside the formal banking system, either by banks through off-balance-sheet activities, or by non-bank financial institutions, such as trust firms. A mysterious and enormous part of China’s financial landscape, the “shadow banking” sector has come under the spotlight as concerns from global investors swirl about the future of the world’s second biggest economy. Quothe the Raven, "Evergrande"
China Evergrande, which is the world's most heavily indebted property developer and became the poster child for China's property crisis, on Thursday filed for protection from creditors in a U.S. bankruptcy court.
The company sought protection under Chapter 15 of the U.S. bankruptcy code, which shields non-U.S. companies that are undergoing restructurings from creditors that hope to file lawsuits or tie up assets in the United States.
Tianji Holdings, a related company, also sought Chapter 15 protection on Thursday in Manhattan bankruptcy court.

The City of Lights Will No Longer Be the City of Pony Rides
The city of Paris will ban pony rides for children in public parks following a campaign by animal rights activists who said that the animals were suffering as a result of the practice.
The ban will come into effect from the year 2025, Reuters reported on Friday.
For years, pony rides have been a popular staple in Parisian parks like Champ de Mars, Parc Monceau and Parc du Luxembourg.
Animal rights group Paris Animaux Zoopolis had long campaigned for the ban and had lobbied the city administration in the French capital with several demonstrations and awareness-raising operations in front of Parisian parks.
A statement on the animal rights group's website welcomed the ban, saying "this victory in Paris represents an important step towards making society as a whole understand that animals are not toys and arriving at a world where animals are no longer exploited for leisure.
Paris City Hall had introduced a charter for the well-being of ponies in 2021 and last month decided to phase out granting licenses for pony-riding business operators following pressure from the group.
A PAZ petition to ban the rides had gathered more than 8,400 signatures fro members of the public prior to the ban being announced.
Do I Think This is a Good Idea? Neigh!!
