After my friend turned vegan, it was like I'd never seen herbivore.
I Got an Answer to My Question, and It Isn't Good.
A few days ago I asked by the Democrats couldn't raise the debt ceiling before the new Congress. The answer? Joe Manchin.
Joe Manchin was at Fortune CEO conference Thursday, where he told the group that Congress has to do something about the nation’s “crippling debt” by making changes to shore up Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other programs he said are “going bankrupt.”
Yes, Joe Manchin is using the House Republicans campaign platform.
“We cannot live with this crippling debt,” Manchin said. “If we can’t come to grips of how we face the financial challenges this country has, then we’re all going to be paying a price that we can’t afford.”
Never mind that deficit reduction in the Biden administration is very real. “The federal budget deficit fell to $1.4 trillion for the 2022 fiscal year, from $2.8 trillion a year ago, a reduction driven primarily by the winding down of pandemic emergency spending and a surge in tax receipts, according to the Treasury Department,” The New York Times reported a few weeks ago. Yes, the deficit and the debt are not the same thing, but also THEY ARE NOT CRIPPLING ANYTHING.
When the Answer is "Joe Manchin", It is Never Good.

After the Election, God Will Blot out the Moon.
Skywatchers on four continents will have the chance next week to catch the last total lunar eclipse for three years.
The eclipse will occur Tuesday, with the moon set to turn blood red as it slips into Earth’s shadow. The celestial show will be visible to viewers in North and Central America, Asia, Australia, the Pacific Islands and parts of South America.
Lunar eclipses occur when the moon, Earth and sun are aligned and the moon passes into Earth’s shadow. Total lunar eclipses are sometimes known as blood moons because of the dramatic coloring caused by Earth’s atmosphere, which scatters light from the sun and brandishes it on the face of the moon.
After Tuesday's eclipse, the next total lunar eclipse will not occur again until March 14, 2025, according to NASA.

Get Ready for More Homeless People
Eviction filings have been on the rise and were above their historical averages in half of the 1,059 counties tracked by Legal Services Corp., a federally-funded legal aid group, during either August or September. The problem is expected to get worse in the coming months as federal rental assistance money runs out and people are unable to keep pace with rising rents and decades-high inflation, according to interviews with more than a dozen housing advocates, government officials and industry experts.
“Now that rental assistance is over, and now that local moratoriums are over, we’re playing catch-up to what the pandemic did, and my biggest fear is the cliff that we’ve been all anticipating is here. From here on out, it’s going to be a very, very difficult time,” said Tim Thomas, research director at the Urban Displacement Project at the University of California, Berkeley. “I don’t want to be a doom and gloom person, but we’re probably about to see the worst of what’s about to happen.”

Who Could Have Predicted That BREXIT Could Be Bad?
Brexit adding to cost-of-living crisis, Mark Carney says
Brexit has added to the UK's economic woes by lowering the value of the pound and contributing to price rises, an ex-Bank of England governor has said.
Mark Carney told the BBC the fall in the pound and shrinking economy after the UK left the EU had added to "inflationary pressure".
No 10 says soaring prices are being driven by Covid and the Ukraine war.
On Thursday, the Bank warned the UK was facing its longest recession since records began.
Any Sane Person Could Have Predicted It.

Add "Art Theft" to the List of Russian Crimes
The Nazis were among the biggest art thieves in history. By the end of WWII they had stolen an estimated 20% of Europe’s artwork.
Russia can’t possibly equal that feat in Ukraine, but it’s not like they aren’t trying. Kherson is apparently being systematic looted of everything the Russians can carry. It’s a sure sign, for me at least, that Russia is preparing to pull out.

Paid $44 Billion to Lose $4 Million Per Day. That's $1.5 Billion Per Year. What is the ROI on That?
Elon Musk is threatening to “name and shame” advertisers who have hit pause on Twitter while his takeover of the social media platform sows chaos.
The idea, apparently, is that Musk’s fans would boycott those companies until they agree to start funneling ad bucks to Twitter again.
General Mills, General Motors, Volkswagen, and Pfizer are among the major corporations that have stopped advertising on Twitter since Musk bought it a week ago for $44 billion.
The vast majority of Twitter’s revenue comes from advertising, and the new boss was not happy to see the bottom line drying up.
“Twitter has had a massive drop in revenue, due to activist groups pressuring advertisers, even though nothing has changed with content moderation and we did everything we could to appease the activists,” Musk tweeted Friday morning.
“Extremely messed up! They’re trying to destroy free speech in America.”
Ironically, after Twitter users flagged the tweet, a Guardian story about why advertisers were actually fleeing the site was added as “context.”
Hate speech on the platform ballooned after Musk’s purchase, and banned users immediately began clamoring for reinstatement, undoubtedly making advertisers nervous.
Musk’s complaint about their abandonment led conservative operative Mike Davis to tweet at the new owner: “Name and shame the advertisers who are succumbing to the advertiser boycotts. So we can counter-boycott them.”
The SpaceX and Tesla founder then replied: “Thank you. A thermonuclear name & shame is exactly what will happen if this continues.”
The billionaire’s vow seems unlikely to calm corporate jitters and bring advertisers back. It comes during a week of utter tumult, with Musk firing top executives and board members, launching massive layoffs, and announcing a plan to charge verified users $8 a month to keep their blue check marks.
“Regarding Twitter’s reduction in force, unfortunately there is no choice when the company is losing over $4M/day. Everyone exited was offered 3 months of severance, which is 50% more than legally required,” he tweeted.
