Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath.
A super-calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.
See Ye Later
Adidas has ended its partnership with the rapper formerly known as Kanye West over his offensive and antisemitic remarks, the latest company to cut ties with Ye and a decision that the German sportwear company said would hit its bottom line.
“Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech," the company said in a statement Tuesday. “Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness."
The company faced pressure to cut ties with Ye, with celebrities and others on social media urging Adidas to act. It said at the beginning of the month that it was placing its lucrative sneaker deal with the rapper under review.
Adidas said Tuesday that it conducted a “thorough review" and would immediately stop production of its line of Yeezy products and stop payments to Ye and his companies. The sportswear company said it was expected to take a hit of up to 250 million euros ($246 million) to its net income this year from the decision.
The move by Adidas comes after Ye was suspended from Twitter and Instagram this month over antisemitic posts that the social networks said violated their policies.
He recently suggested slavery was a choice and called the COVID-19 vaccine the “mark of the beast,” among other comments.

I Guess He's Not the Stinky Guy I Used to Play Poker WithA hermit dubbed by media as "the world's dirtiest man" has died at the age of 94, just months after having his first wash in decades. Amou Haji had refused to use soap and water for more than half a century, fearing it would make him sick. The Iranian, who lived in the southern province of Fars, had avoided previous attempts by villagers to get him clean. But, local media say, Amou Haji finally succumbed to pressure and washed a few months ago. According to Iran's IRNA news agency, he became ill shortly afterwards and died on Sunday. In a previous interview, given to the Tehran Times in 2014, he revealed his favourite meal was porcupine, and that he lived between a hole in the ground and a brick shack built by concerned neighbours in the village of Dejgah.

I Am Sure Someone Was Upset When Their Package Didn't Arrive.
A delivery driver for Amazon was found dead after an apparent animal attack Monday in Missouri, and deputies shot and killed two aggressive dogs, the Ray County sheriff said.
Deputies were called to a home in Excelsior Springs, a town of around 10,000, around 7 p.m. after neighbors reported that an Amazon van had been parked there for several hours, Sheriff Ray Childers said.
A man's body was found in a yard, as were two highly aggressive dogs, he said. Deputies shot and killed the animals.
The man’s identity was not immediately disclosed.

Nothing Putin Is Doing Is Going Well
Eight months and one day after Russia began its illegal, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, the idea that Europe is going to "freeze in the dark" without Russian gas seems laughable. Gas storage facilities in Germany are over 97% full, well ahead of last year's status. That gives the nation a significant buffer against any market disruptions.
Germany’s gas storage this year is much higher than it was at any time last year.
Across the entire E.U. storage facilities are over 90% full. And even as Europe has been topping off its tanks, the actual price for natural gas has continued to fall. On Monday, prices reached a four month low, with the per megawatt hour cost dropping below $100—less than a third of cost on the day Putin made that “let them freeze” threat. Of course, Russia has been selling its gas. It’s switched primarily to selling to China and Southeast Asia. But there’s a problem: Cut off from its biggest market and a pariah in the fiscal world, Russia hasn’t been in a very good position to negotiate pricing. As a result, there are articles like this one on Yahoo News noting that “China has secured Russian gas at a 50% discount until the end of this year.”
They’re not the only ones. Some nations are actually buying more Russian gas than they need, disguising it as gas from other sources (Malaysian production is up something like 200% without drilling any new wells, a miracle) and then reselling it at market prices.
But Russia isn’t getting market prices. It’s getting half of market prices. That might have been enough when those prices were through the roof, but now they’re down everywhere. Russian gas is selling dirt cheap, and without those handy European pipelines, Russia’s transportation and storage costs are up.

While Jews Don't Do the Kind of Things the Neo-Nazis Talk About, Some of them are Crooks“The largest private Hasidic Jewish school in New York State stole millions of dollars from a variety of government programs in a yearslong fraud, the school admitted in federal court documents filed on Monday. The operators of the school, the Central United Talmudical Academy, which serves more than 2,000 boys in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, acknowledged that they illegally diverted money from government programs for school lunches, technology, and child care. They also admitted to setting up no-show jobs for some employees while paying others in cash and coupons so the employees could qualify for welfare, according to a deferred prosecution agreement filed in Federal District Court in Brooklyn. In all, the school agreed to pay $5 million in fines in addition to the more than $3 million it had already paid in restitution as part of the deal to avoid prosecution.” Whatever the official numbers are, it is obvious that the Hassidim are sitting on a mountain of cash showered on them by cynical politicians, some of whom are Democrats. Although the Hasidim have tended to support Republicans. Mainly because they prefer the GOP's laissez-faire medical policies and support of religious freedom. Unsurprisingly, this led to the Hassidim having the state’s highest COVID rate. And their religious objection to vaccination (not a common position in the Jewish diaspora) has also led to a reoccurrence of polio. It is not just the city schools that have managed to rake it in. The Village of Kiryas Joel school district’s finances bears no relationship to the other districts in the state. The average expenditure on schools in the US averages around $14,000 per student. In New York State, it is c.$25,000. And in Kiryas Joel, the amount spent per student is $330,923. When in 2019, CUTA agreed to give state standardized tests in reading and math to more than 1,000 students — every one of them failed.

Isn't He Already Suffering From Brain Fog?
The trial of a far-right extremist group leader and four associates charged in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol was delayed on Monday after the Oath Keepers leader tested positive for the coronavirus.
Jurors were supposed to begin hearing the fourth week of testimony in the case against Stewart Rhodes and four others accused of plotting to stop the transfer of power from Republican Donald Trump to Democrat Joe Biden.
Testimony could resume Tuesday morning if Rhodes waives his right to be present in court for at least some of the remaining government witnesses. The judge said he believes the earliest Rhodes can return to court is next Monday.

The QOP Doesn't Have a Monopoly on Stupid
A group of US congressional Democrats have urged president Joe Biden to pursue direct engagement with Russia to end the war in Ukraine, while still maintaining current military and economic commitments to Kyiv.
“Given the destruction created by this war for Ukraine and the world, as well as the risk of catastrophic escalation, we … believe it is in the interests of Ukraine, the United States, and the world to avoid a prolonged conflict,” the 30 Democratic members write in the letter to Biden.
“For this reason, we urge you to pair the military and economic support the United States has provided to Ukraine with a proactive diplomatic push, redoubling efforts to seek a realistic framework for a ceasefire”.
Among the 30 signatories to the letter are Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley, from the most progressive wing of the party, collectively known as “the squad”.
The letter was led by Representative Pramila Jayapal, who chairs the congressional Progressive Caucus.
“As legislators responsible for the expenditure of tens of billions of US taxpayer dollars in military assistance in the conflict, we believe such involvement in this war also creates a responsibility for the United States to seriously consider all possible avenues, including direct engagement with Russia,” they write.
There is no truth to the rumor (that I started) that they are going to rename themselves "The Neville Chamberlain Caucus".
Why Is This Stupid?
This is Ukraine’s war with Russia. The idea that the United States can waltz in and dictate terms to a foreign country would validate every accusation that Ukraine is America’s puppet, and validate claims that the United States is an imperialistic power that can dictate the world order. Very ironic, indeed, from a caucus that bills itself as committed to anti-imperialism. The United States and Biden, along with our European allies, engaged in a strong diplomatic effort to prevent this war from starting in the first place. A lack of Western and American diplomacy isn’t what’s keeping the war going, it’s that Russia has zero interest in anything resembling honoring Ukraine’s territorial integrity. Russia doesn’t honor agreements anyway. Russia would kill for a ceasefire right now.

More Stupid Democrats
Last week, a reporter asked President Biden if he would support a repeal of the debt ceiling. “A permanent repeal of the debt ceiling? … Just say we don’t have a debt limit?” he asked with a laugh, as if the notion were fantastical. “No. That’d be irresponsible.”
The reality is in fact just the opposite. Repealing the debt ceiling, or raising it to a level at which it is practically repealed, is the responsible course of action. Leaving the debt ceiling in place invites political chaos and creates the risk of a global economic meltdown with absolutely no benefit whatsoever. Biden’s dismissive comment was the most irresponsible act of his entire presidency.
The Washington Post reports that Biden uttered this response extemporaneously, “surprising some of his own aides, according to two people who have been in communication with senior administration officials and spoke on the condition of anonymity to reflect private conversations.” In so doing, he blundered into a crisis that he has a short period of time to resolve, and if he fails, it could very well destroy his administration.
A brief refresher: The debt ceiling is not an instrument that limits the government’s ability to borrow money. The amount of debt is determined by Congress, which sets levels of taxes and spending and borrows the difference between the two. The debt ceiling is a separate vote to authorize the Treasury Department to actually pay its lenders what it owes them. Because of the dollar’s unique role underpinning world markets, a failure to repay would trigger an unpredictable and potentially catastrophic meltdown of global currency markets.
For many decades, it barely mattered that the U.S. government had an extraneous self-destruct button installed. But then the Republican Party was taken over by maniacs. The first generation of maniacs, led by Newt Gingrich, only toyed with the idea of using the debt ceiling as a threat to compel a Democratic president to adopt their proposals before settling on the less crazy (but still deeply self-destructive) mechanism of shutting down the government.
The next generation of maniacs to confront a Democratic president came around in 2011, when the tea-party Congress threatened to default on the debt to force President Obama to sign some combination of spending cuts. Obama disastrously took this as an opportunity for serious negotiations, not realizing he was simply being extorted. He gave Republicans spending cuts he believed would set the stage for real mutual compromise before wising up.
Biden somehow unlearned the lesson. Meanwhile, the current generation of Republicans has continued the party’s long descent into ever-deeper levels of madness. Its members are broadcasting their intention to use the debt ceiling as a hostage. Even the “sane” Republicans have given up on steering them away from this course of action.
“There’s a genuine desire and strategic imperative to get something out of this — that may be stupid and may be reckless, but they have to play this game out,” one party strategis tells the Post. “If you don’t try it, you’ll just get beat up on by figures on the right, including the former president — who will say you’re weak and stupid and you gave them this vulnerable thing for nothing.” If you have watched Republicans capitulate to Donald Trump’s various fantasies, this logic sounds depressingly familiar. Once the movement has started down the track of extorting Biden, simple self-interest will make it impossible for Republicans to defect.
It may be possible for Biden to escape the hostage scenario by paying a small ransom — say, some cuts to the programs he just devoted a year to passing through Congress — but even that would be extremely risky. Any negotiation invites both sides to engage in brinkmanship. Both parties to the talks have an incentive to stake out a firm line and threaten to walk away. Even if they strike a deal, the agreement could break down if the Republicans fail to deliver 218 votes, a failure that happens all the time. And even if a negotiation succeeds, it invites more hostage-taking the next time around.
It would be nice if House Republicans could be persuaded to lift the debt ceiling without being paid off with a policy concession. But they have already decided to hold it hostage. Now there is no way out other than eliminating the debt ceiling while Democrats still have the time to do so. Democrats can do this with one vote in Congress. (The backup plan — announcing the Treasury Department will mint a coin to cover the cost of its debt — is available but riskier.)
Democrats had years to devote a small amount of political capital to defusing this weapon. Simple myopia has prevented them from doing it. Now the clock is ticking down toward doomsday. Biden’s loose talk has made the task all the more difficult but also all the more necessary.

Adidas Is Not Going to Be a Popular Brand Among Nazis
Extremism researchers have positively identified one of the neo-Nazis that participated in the Kanye-themed white supremacist banner drop on the 405 Freeway overpass in Los Angeles last week. SoCal Research Club, a collective monitoring and researching neo-Nazi networks, released their findings on Monday after the shocking antisemitic display of hate that drew condemnation from across Los Angeles and the nation. The blonde woman in red performing a Nazi salute while wearing a black skirt and a white cap, as seen in viral images of the 405 overpass, has been identified as Erika Ostrove, also known as Erika Suveg and Hungarian Erika, from Woodlands, California.

Mexicans Don't Deserve Cable
A man in Wisconsin was arrested and charged with a hate crime after basically turning himself in as a racist by calling the police to claim his neighbor pushed him down the stairs.
Shannon Pearson, 48, claimed the neighbor pushed him after he confronted them about being in the country illegally. Police interviewed the parties separately, during which the neighbors noted that they were sleeping when Pearson claimed he was pushed—because they work overnight.
According to a criminal complaint, Pearson not only admitted to drinking that day on Sept. 22 but told police he got upset when the cable guy came to install internet for his neighbors. He confessed that he cut the internet cable after installation because "I just don't feel that they deserve cable.”
He continued: “I’m sorry, I don’t. They’re illegal aliens.”
When asked by police officials why he thought his neighbors were “illegal” immigrants, Pearson said it is because they do not speak English. While police officials confirmed the neighbors were not “illegal” immigrants, whether or not someone is documented does not give Pearson the right to cut their cable or treat them the way he did.
According to NBC News, Pearson initially told officers that the cable installer cut the services because he “freaked out” after he informed them his neighbors were undocumented. However, the internet installer later returned and told officials that Pearson "had come outside and was saying racist things" during the installation and that he had cut the cable.
The criminal complaint also noted that Pearson expressed frustration that “Mexicans” regularly moved into the apartment above him.
According to WQOW, Pearson was charged with obstructing an officer and criminal damage to property. The charge was upgraded to a felony because it is classified as a hate crime. While he was released from jail on $1,000 bond, he is due back in court in November.
If convicted, he could face two years in person in addition to a maximum fine of $10,000.
