I have been doing the news summaries for over a year and a half, hoping that this would help create an active discussion board. It hasn't worked.
I will continue to post here as long as there seems to be people around. However, I won't be doing the daily news summaries.

That's unfortunate. I very much appreciate your daily news summaries (and your puns), and I'm sure a lot of other people do, too.
I join you in wishing there was more activity in this forum. Contributors here tend to be highly intelligent and non-belligerent. Maybe that's the problem - perhaps most visitors merely read the posts, digest the information, and then move on... without commenting on the posts or insulting someone.
I hate to think that the lack of rancor may be the problem with this board, rather than one of its attributes...

I will continue to post here as long as there seems to be people around. However, I won't be doing the daily news summaries. As a daily reader and infrequent contributor, I will miss your "wide scope" coverage of what's happening here and there. I think gainsborough is right. There are no flamethrowers on this forum. No keyboard commandoes, ready to strike back at anything that offends their political persuasions. You could slim down your coverage by eliminating the Covid scoreboard. Covid is here to stay and absent the appearance of a new highly transmissible and lethal variant it's not the news it was. Otherwise, your blog (can I call it that?) was topical and certainly worth a read. And the fact that it didn't generate much follow up discussion was because there wasn't much to disagree with. Maybe publish a one a week "best of the best", a compilation of news or personal items that struck you as worth sharing.

I, too, am sorry to hear that, but I do understand. I'm sure you note that your posts do get 50 or more reads every day and in the hundreds on many days. I know it's frustrating to post so much and get almost no response. I think that Bob is right that most people here do agree with your comments and consequently feel no need to post. I'm sure you've also noted that practically all of my posts here to you are simply amplifying and agreeing with what you said.
My only suggestion would be to possibly share information then ask questions about solutions or opposition. Maybe some would respond. Maybe a "what can we do" approach would generate more replies and start discussion.
I think the "bad news board" (blue board) works because the subject posts are usually very short, highly controversial, and are usually inciteful. On the blue board there's also a few members in strong opposition to the rest of the board that generate lots of heated exchanges. I know that's not tolerated here unless it's more civil.
I have to admit I rarely study or read the covid and Ukraine info as there's little I can offer on either. Maybe focusing on the key hot issues and asking for ideas would help.
I've enjoyed and appreciate what you've done.
